THIN LIZZY - Jailbreak SE - Jeez they could rock nicely but boy they wrote fuckn shmaltz 'romeo and the loney girl'? 'running back' , geez the sound of diarrhea spluttering from my arse sounds better!. Part of the reason I laugh at hard rock half the time and have little time for metal, except the odd 'masterwork'.
DAMNED, DAMNED, DAMNED SE - great album, geez they could play. Makes me realise how much the Englerlisch punque bands were influece by the mighty Saints, especially the Damned.
QUEEN - Sheer heart attack SE - fuckn great, great hard rock album. Jimi Hendrix influenced most English hard rock AFAIC.

I got one of the Grinderman releases but missed out on the OFF! singles. They're playing here in a week, tho', so here's to hoping their merch is up to snuff.

I picked up one of the Kozik figures, turns out I got the one you get a 1/10 chance of getting. He's badass - he'll nicely accompany the 12" Dio picture disc for "Killing the Dragon" I also picked up today...

I really liked it. Only went through it once, but it made a nice soundtrack to a rad day driving into the city. The Merzpearance is pretty limited, but it works well. He kinda does some background noise on the tracks. It's not as upfront as Facialmess' noise in Nikudorei, but I didn't expect it to be similar. 2 CDs of some rad live jams. I normally hate live stuff, but this doesn't really sound live.
I think an interesting approach to this would've been to have the signal from the instruments split with one going to the board and the other to Merzbow. Then having him mutilate that on the fly and send it out. It would've added some weirdness to it. However, they probably just wanted the screechy fill as an extra instrument, and that worked fine. Totally looking forward to wailing this again tomorrow.

Nomeansno - The Worldhood of the World (As Such)

This is a freakin' great album. I'm reminded an incident back in the Fall of '06 -- in Seattle to see Scratch Acid and after the show we retired to a buddy's house for some post-concert drinkin' and smokin' activities. I was raving about how Sims/Washam were the greatest rhythm section in the history of 'punk rock' and then my friend goes and slaps this NoMeansNo CD on and I just kinda went.....oh, nevermind.

Unfortunately, even though the band is headquartered so close to my hometown, they rarely travel to Spokane. The last time I saw them was over in Seattle way back in Feb. of '99 (with The Hell Worms opening!). That show blew my brain right out into the cosmosphere.

I have, sadly, never seen Nomeansno live. This is something I intend to correct... as soon as they come anywhere within a few hours of me.

Some albums I picked up this month (all LP:s):
MIRANDA SEX GARDEN - Madra (yes, i'm a closet-goth)
FARLEY FUNKIN' KEITH - Funkin With The Drums 12" (great old school chicago house bleeps and bloops)
MR. FINGERS - Classic Fingers (one of the real masters of classic deep house, Larry Heard's a genius!)
ACTIVE CHILD - You Are All I See (one of the best bands in recent years)
SHELLEYAN ORPHAN - Helleborine (just beautiful 80s indie pop for fans of Cocteu Twins, english poetry and The Wicker Man)
VON GOAT - Septic Illumination (when I heard that classic US black/death metal band had reformed I knew I had to buy their album)
SIXX - Sister Devil (goth with a black metal feel from the guys from Von... not really what I expected but it has started to grow on me)
NORTHERN LIGHTS - Vancouver Dreaming (sunshine pop in the same vain as The Free Design and similar bands... as usual there's some great cuts and some pretty bland ones)
BURIAL - Street Halo 12" (best track of 2011!)
FRIEDRICH GULDA - As You Like It (fantastic classical-pianist turned jazz-pianist! He does "Light My Fire" way better than The Doors!)
TIM HECKER - Ravedeath, 1972 (marvelous ambient/drones)
POCKETS - So Delicious (had some fine disco/soul tunes but on the whole not so memorable)
AGNETA FÄLTSKOG (of ABBA fame) - Wrap Your Arms Around Me (don't laugh! The title track is wonderful, sexy euro-pop and I only payed roughly 1$ for it anyway)

You could also try getting it straight from Beat (http://www.beatrecords.it/shop0.asp?lingua=e&shop=si).

I dig the verbose sales pitch:

In our website you will have the opportunity to browse a lot of pages with many proposals for your orders.

The products shown at our on-line shop are selected among those that manifest particular quality, limited editions and good taste. Our offer is in ever-growing.

It's difficult to find in the normal way the music we offer, often our products make part of very limited series or belong to rare labels.

Our selection, mainly based upon BEAT RECORDS & PENTAFLOWERS catalogue, offers also Scores (Original Soundtrack Music), Jazz and blinks an eye to exotic and rare releases.

We do suggest you to search through our products list accurately: we try to keep prices and forwarding charges very low, in order to let you have your favourite music at convenient costs and you'll surely have the chance to find very rare products you didn't even suspect the existence!

I like it. You just have to be prepared for what it is - a loving tribute to classic 70's hard rock like UFO. it's got plenty of metal moments but it is definitely not Steve's prog rock album and doesn't sound like MAIDEN.

I dig that EP much more than their album...still, bought both on vinyl when i saw him.

David Bowie - Diamond Dogs

Probably my all time fave Bowie tune on this one ("Sweet Thing").

The new Enslaved album "RIITIIR" pretty much owns my soul right now.

Recently picked up Tool's Lateralus. They were an old friend's beloved band. I can't say I dig them much, but it reminds of good times.

Well don't be a tease...out with it! Titles? I love DG but every now and then I get a case w/a busted hub, the disc is never damaged but it's annoying. They are the best US place for S/T though.
