SWV video sent out an email blast this morning promoting drug movies for 4/20 and I'm totally stealing that idea.

I don't personally partake, I'm strictly a booze hound, but I do enjoy a good drug movie.

One of the most obvious choices would be Alex De Renzy's 'documentary' Weed - which is a pretty great look at dope culture.

Of course, there's Marijuana and Reefer Madness, those are mandatory viewing for anyone with an interest.

I guess you could include stoner comedies here, maybe movies like Acapulco Gold and odd trip films like, well, The Trip and Alice In Acidland.

So do it - raise your hand. Step up and get down - what drug movies tickle your fancy and why?

I left the lettuce alone a long time ago but I can dig a good drug movie. THE PARTY with Peter Sellers is pretty funny. He gets high for the first time and becomes a huge head. I really wanted to like PINEAPPLE EXPRESS but aside from a funny scene here and there, I thought it was lame.

Jim Rome just got done doing a funny bit about today. Somebody baked out of their mind always calls in. Stoners trying to talk sports is usually an exercise in futility.

Edit - Actually, it's the Sellers film I LOVE YOU ALICE B. TOKLAS that is drug-centered. THE PARTY is funny too though. I always get those two mixed up.

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is brilliant

Trash (directed by Paul Morrissey) is another good one

I'm not really into the genre per se. It's funny because I love mind fucker movies. If arthouse/exploitation/bizarre films are it's own separate sub-genre then that would be my absolute favorite. And mind fucker flicks are heavily suggested that they're best enjoyed under the influence.

But movies specifically about drug abuse that I liked:

Fear & Loathing
Naked Lunch
Requiem For a Dream (is it possible to "enjoy" this film? Like, oh I'm bored, I'm going to watch something incredibly depressing now)
Liquid Sky

The Addiction (1995) *Yeah its a vampire film but blood is basically a surrogate for heroin*

I love that movie, one of my favorite comedies. A reserved Peter Sellers is sooo much more funny than a nutty one, IMO. All his little asides and looks, god dammit, I gotta rewatch it again soon.

My username is from "The Stoned Age" which is all about skank weed, the schnappster, and cruising for chicks. That film and "Over the Edge" pretty much nail what it was like growing up in the '70s, for me.
