Agreed on that Despair cover - I've liked what little of his stuff I've seen...

I'm really tempted by DESPAIR but it seems quite expensive for a 'blind buy'. I like most of Fassbinder's films, and for me, WORLD ON A WIRE was one of the big discoveries of last year: that's an amazing piece of work.

Has anyone seen DESPAIR yet? Is it worth its price?

Is Despair the film where Bogarde goes a bit loopy with everyone around him and, finding some bloke who looks nothing like him, becomes convinced the guy is his doppleganger? If so, I may have to look into this one myself as that's one film that has burrowed its way into my subconscious ever since I saw it twenty odd years ago.

Yep, that's the film, Mike. Hopefully, it burrowed its way into your subconscious for the right reasons - ie, that it's an effective film.

I still haven't caught up with either of these but sometimes patience (laziness?) is a virtue because Despair is coming out on Blu-ray 11/1/11.

On Amazon.com, the Blu-ray is the same price as the DVD too!
