View Full Version : Where Oh Where is the Uwe Boll thread?

I thought you bad movie fans would have been up for one? Especially as the good doctor has this coming out this year...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UFco4FlZkQk

Seriously though, I've never seen one of Dr. Boll's films. I keep looking at the Bloodrayne series, as I figure you can't go too badly wrong with vampire films, but all the persistent negative press over the years has really put me off. Alone in the Dark is the other one that raises some mild interest, if only for the bizarro pairing of Christian Slater and Tara Reid. Plus, I have never seen House of the Dead (though I have the non-Boll sequel on DVD hereabouts)!

So, let's talk Uwe and convince me I have to see some of his films. ;)

Mike, Alone in the Dark is painfully bad. Not fun bad, painfully bad.

Bloodrayne, however, is hilarious.

As is In The Name Of The King where Jason Statham plays a farmer named Farmer and Burt Reynolds calls in the ninjas. Good stuff.

House of the Dead is amazingly dumb but worth watching once just to experience it for yourself.

I can't believe he's making an Auschwitz film. That takes some serioulsy brass balls.

I watched Bloodrayne while drinking 7 vodka tonics - not in succession, mind you: I had 7 of 'em lined up, ready to go. You need this for Boll movies. I think I plowed through an 18-pack of PBR for In the Name of the King, too. Again, necessary to watching (much less enjoying) these films. That said, Bloodrayne does have a deliriously pointless sex scene w/ Krista Lokkinen that's pretty neat and Matt Lillard in ItNotK is actually pretty good. Ray Liotta, on the other hand, looks confused throughout the whole movie...

I have no doubt whatsoever that he was.

I took a Holocaust film series of classes and one of the big takeaways from those was that the idea that there can't be any "bad" movies about the Holocaust because they at least keep the topic alive and potentially get people thinking about it. The mantra of "Never forget!" remains intact that way.

However, Herr Boll might be the one to disprove that.

Ian Jane

With that and the Bloodrayne/Hitler movie, he's on a Nazi tear lately.

Does this reasoning apply to movies like "SS Extermination Love Camp"?

Yes, because the word "love" is featured in the title.

This news just in: Auschwitz passed in the UK with the equivalent of a US PG-13...

Auschwitz @ the BBFC (http://www.bbfc.co.uk/AVV279669/)

...mind you, even at PAL speed 71m is pretty short for a feature film. Hmmm...

Ian Jane
06-07-2011, 09:17 AM
There's a lot of very mixed reviews for Auschwitz on the imdb - which isn't surprising. What is surprising is how many people are saying that Boll's approach to it is actually intelligent and thought provoking.

Ian Jane
06-18-2011, 10:34 AM
I watched Bloodrayne Third Reich last night and it's about what I expected it to be and wanted it to be. Rayne runs around as a nigh-invulnerable killing machine who only takes time out of her plan to eliminate the Nazis to have lesbian sex with a hot blonde chick and have nightmares about Hitler biting her. Lots of bad CGI blood, dumb dialogue, boobs and surprisingly strong production values as far as set design and costumes go.

Boll and his writer have a commentary on the disc but I haven't listened to it yet. I will though, because a lot of times his commentaries are better than his movies.

Mike T

Me thinks I am going to have to import the barebones HK DVD of House of the Dead and see where it all began (afterall, it'll set me back all of about $4.00AUD). ;)

Ian Jane
06-18-2011, 12:00 PM
Don't pay much more for it than that. I can have fun with a lot of his movies but House is just sooo bad that it's tough. Not Alone In The Dark tough, but tough.

Ian Jane

So not only is Uwe Boll making a sequel to his awesome IN THE NAME OF THE KING but he's making the film with Dolph Lundgren. And he's a time traveller.

Twitch has an article here (http://twitchfilm.com/news/2011/09/dolph-lundgren-cast-in-uwe-bolls-in-the-name-of-the-king-2.php?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+TwitchEverything+%28Twitch%3A +Everything%29). This can't be anything but awesome, can it?

Im still waiting for my pre-ordered Darfur. Rampage was solid. I feel he is on a roll now. I cant wait for this auschwitz themed film.

Alex K.

Rampage is probably his masterpiece. I'm not saying it is a masterpiece, but it's undoubtedly his best film. Darfur was pretty bad, it felt directionless. Auschwitz was again directionless. The actual Auschwitz footage is well done but he incorporates this documentary footage of German teenagers and what they think of the Holocaust.

Alex K.

I hated Postal. It tried way too hard to be like a John Waters/Troma picture. I did laugh at the scene where Boll explains how he funds his movies by selling gold teeth of Jews killed in the Holocaust.

Alex K.
09-30-2011, 10:11 PM
Just a heads up: Avoid Seed if you're an Animal Lover. It opens with PETA-Snuff footage. The rest of the film is your standard serial killer flick and not too memorable a one either.

Fox releases In The Name Of The King 2 (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00600SPN8/) on DVD/Blu-ray 12/27/2011 - directed by Boll and starring Dolph Lundgren!

Dolph + Boll = epic.

Ian Jane
01-03-2012, 10:02 AM
And epic it was. Watched it last night. It's.... dumb. Really dumb. Really, really, really dumb. But you know what? I liked it. Dolph sort of seems to sleepwalk through it and he's starting to look old but it somehow manages to add to the charm. And hey, dig that crazy Dragon-o-saurus thing at the end. Not as gory as the R rating would have you believe and pretty tame for the most part, but it's Dolph doing what Dolph does best and Uwe doing what Uwe does best. Awesome, if incredibly stupid, entertainment.

The Silly Swede
01-03-2012, 04:37 PM
I went out to rent this just this evening, as I had seen it in the new releases section just the other day. But now I could not find it. Until I checked the top 10 rentals, a section I usually can avoid with my eclectic taste. Dolph + Boll = last weeks number 5 most rented movie at my local videostore. I guess Swedes love their Dolph. I will post my thoughts after I have seen it.

The Silly Swede
01-04-2012, 09:57 AM
The film definitely deserved to be in the top 10 rentals. Bad CGI dragon and a styrofoam castle = bossness. Also, Dolph as usual is splendid in his line delivery and display of emotion.

The cost was fine with me (£10.82 with the shipping) and the extras are the same we usually get in a region 1 release of his film (also they are subtitled, not a necessity but it helps).

Plus I like the cover for Max Schmeling

As you can see this review (http://flickeringmyth.blogspot.com/2011/05/dvd-review-max-schmeling-fist-of-reich.html) and this one (http://blueprintreview.co.uk/2011/05/max-schmeling-fist-of-the-reich/) are quite positive (I couldn't care less about what the imdb troll can say). Darfur I watched last week was quite good also, in fact it's been a while since I saw one of his film I didn't like, Alone in the Dark being the film in question.

A pretty cool article by way of Twitch (http://twitchfilm.com/2012/10/its-uwe-boll-versus-wall-street-in-bailout-the-age-of-greed.html) about Boll's upcoming film, Bailout: The Age Of Greed.

"Millions of people have lost everything in the financial crisis. They've lost their jobs, their homes, their life savings. In addressing the crisis, the government bailout has not addressed the problem, but instead will have a horrific impact on state economies for generations to come.

The bailout has proven more costly than the world's collected history of wars and natural disasters. Countries are going bankrupt and our economic systems are collapsing.

This film is about a man who lost everything in the bailout and who strikes back at the system that took everything he had."

Dominic Purcell, Erin Karpluk, Edward Furlong, Michael Pare, Clint Howard and Eric Roberts star.

So I just saw Attack on Wall Street. Slow moving and with some kind of plot instead of all out carnage it was still all right. Hell, it was even a better film then Wall Street 2. The only real issue with the film is that it is super predictable and cliche, and that the carnage is not enough of the total running time. But I enjoyed it.

Tonight I saw "Suddenly" by Uwe Boll. A remake of a 1952 film I had never Heard of. This time shot in a couse in nowhere Canada with what appears to be a "one take per scene" policy, which leads to shitty acting all around. Especially Ray Liotta and Dominic Purcell seem to outsuck eachother. Michael Paré, a veteran of 15 Boll films, seems so used to this practice that he still delivers his wooden acting style. Not a very good film, but I felt that the script in the hands of a more competent director could have been a solid DTV film.

So.... am I the only one who keep watching this auteur, and dare I say greatest German artist since Werner Herzog?

Jimmy Simard

You aren't alone... I'm kind of overdue in my Uwe Boll's movies purchasing.

I have to get Attack on Wall Street, Suddenly (I didn't know about that one) and Zombie Massacre (wich I expect sadly to be awfull) early next year to be up to date in my collection. But I like his movies and since my taxes have paid for them in part why not watching them and being supportive

Now can he release In the Name of the King III?

Good on ya Jimmy! I feel he has done so much for the Vancouver film industry that their NHL team should be renamed "The Vancouver Bolls"

Jimmy Simard
12-14-2013, 01:04 PM
They should since they have the same name that our team at Montreal. Canucks is another way to say Canadians. At least it's a different name contrary to the CFL some years ago when we had two teams named the Rough Riders (one at Ottawa and the other at Regina).
