"Holy shit! My original negative for Maniac was behind the filling cabinet all this time!"

That's really good news. Looking forward to it along with Dead & Buried from BU.

I the negative was "lost" 'cause they weren't looking for the correct title on the cans :dunno:

Supposedly this is going to be the new art for the upcoming release...

I sure hope the original poster art will be on the inside of the cover...

I never knew that Joe Spinell was in a hair metal group or that Caroline Munroe played Daisy Duke. On recent form, I'm not convinced that Blue Underground won't fuck this up in some way so I won't be pre-ordering.

Same for ZOMBIE...but fingers crossed.

Death Dream was the last BU release I bought & I don't recall any issues with that. Were there a dozen or more they did mess up?

Anyone ever think that if people prejudge & generalize about Blu-ray releases then there's no hope for people not doing the same with people? I think it's a lost cause (movies being the most important of the two). :clint:

Good to see Spinell's boner is in full effect.

I always thought it looked like a swollen nut.

I've always thought that you can see the outline of the urethral opening (not going to use the racially dodgy slang term), sort of like a male camel toe.

They really need to offer a priced down release with just the main feature for these reissues considering it's the umpteenth time many people will be buying them. The new extras are not screaming, 'must have' at me

The real draw here is the fact that they found the original negative and scanned it for this master.

07-16-2018, 01:27 PM
Still going to wait for reviews, but if they manage not to screw up in some way, the new scan and the CD make it enticing. Still pissed about getting their first BD release of it with terrible milky black levels.

Update from Blue Underground:

We have some good news and bad news regarding our upcoming MANIAC Limited Edition Blu-ray. Bad news first: We're delaying the release until December 11th. This is to accommodate the good news: We've decided to make the second disc a Blu-ray instead of a DVD. Suggest Retail Price remains unchanged, so now you're getting more bang for your buck!

We're moving the majority of Extras over to Disc 2, allowing more space to accommodate the Feature at a much higher bit rate. Our goal is to give MANIAC the best presentation possible on Blu-ray. We can't wait for you to see the stunning new 4K Restoration from the recently discovered long-lost 16mm original camera negative!!

* WORLD PREMIERE - New 4K Restoration from original camera negative!
* LIMITED EDITION 3D Lenticular Slipcover - Only 10,000 available!
* BONUS Collectable Booklet and Soundtrack CD by Jay Chattaway!

NEW Order Due Date: November 6, 2018

Given how packed October and November are, I welcome a delay to December.

"Maniac didn't look all that much improved visually.I was sitting there thinking 4k must stand for the restoration budget.Because it was film grain city from start to finish."

A friend of mine saw Maniac 4k in a theater & that's what he had to say. This guy doesn't own a Blu-ray player so I'm taking the comment lightly.

Someone at the Blu-ray.com forum has a copy of the new MANIAC Blu-ray and has posted some caps from it (https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.php?p=15779978&postcount=153)

I watched the movie last night & thought it looked quite good along with sounding very nice. I only have the previous dvd release so have never seen the bd.

One thing I wish they had done was a featurette or text about discovering the 16mm OCN along with side by side comparisons to the 35mm blow-up plus what they did to restore the colors, etc. I like seeing stuff like that. I also wonder how Lustig reacted seeing that long-lost OCN. It amazes me it was lost to begin with but then I can't keep up with audio masters I have created over the years (cassettes, cd-r's).
