Dark Sky is putting this out 7/26.

Not sure how much of the original 'Search For Weng Weng' material will make it in, if any, but it should still be an interesting look at the Filipino exploitation industry that once was.

I know the Aussie release came with a 2nd disc of extras but don't know what's on it. This is listed as a single disc release so I'm assuming that isn't happening with the DS release.

This is gonna be a great documentary! I may have to double-dip for that Aussie release if it's worth it. The trailer is phenomenal.

Here's what's on the Aussie double-disc from Umbrella:

64 minutes of trailers and The Muthers? Damn. I'll wait and see what Dark Sky has but it's looking like the Aussie disc is the way to go.

Dread Central posted Dark Sky's press release here (http://www.dreadcentral.com/news/45003/dark-sky-films-release-machete-maidens-unleashed?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+DreadCentral+%28Dread+Central +News%29&utm_content=Twitter) but no word on extras.

Rights issues? The cost difference between doing a one disc release versus a two disc release?

Rights issues?

I was just about to type exactly the same thing! Snap! 'tis the reason we get so much stuff down here sans extras or certain audio options -- no-one can be arsed paying for the extra stuff with the limited consumer market we have. Sometimes it's amazing what turns up as opposed to not, but usually it's not... :drum:

Maybe they figure there's a bigger market for Filipino nuttiness in Australia than the US? I'd think the population difference alone would be enough to make Dark Sky think about basically just porting everything from the R4 disc, but what do I know.

Either way, I'll wait for specs on the R1, if it's not up to par, I'll order the R4. I can be patient.

Maybe as a tourist destination, or source of skilled migrants...but as a filmmaking identity? I doubt the average Aussie would even know there was a Filipino film industry. :p

I doubt the average American (or Canadian) does either.

Why even make this a region specific one? I imagine it would be less expensive to make one 2-disc set that can be played anywhere. Sell better too. I should be an executive.

Evidently the producers sold the rights on a territorial basis and not an international one.

Well that was just dumb.

Well that was just dumb.

But amazingly common in the business... ;)

Well that was just dumb.

Not necessarily. Sometimes you can get more by splitting up the rights than by selling them all to one company as a worldwide package. The average buyer would rather get stuff domestically than have to import it, and most companies don't have worldwide distribution capabilities, which means people are going to have to buy online and import and all that stuff. It does make sense to me from a business perspective why companies do it.

You mean it's about money and not the fans? Say it aint so, Joe.
