WAL-MART - 10/4 (http://www.walmart.com/ip/17013226)

So far there is NO Amazon listing.

(UPDATE: Lionsgate has officially announced this title, and they are also saying it's a 20th Anniversary Edition, which means we might see something special along the lines of what they did for MIMIC. Keep your fingers crossed for that UNCUT version)

OMG! :wtf:

Hold that thought! The listing shows a runtime of 97m, which would make it the US version -- not the full length 104m New Zealand cut.

If it's not uncut why bother? Fingers crossed that's a mistake.

Yeah no fooling. Unless they release Braindead, I'll have to settle with my bootleg and homemade DVD cover.

Cliff told me, on another forum, that he contacted Jackson's people that he was interested in putting this out, but he never told me if he got a response, all he said was that they're currently busy with THE HOBBIT. So, who knows, maybe one day we'll see BRAINDEAD: DIRECTOR'S CUT from Shout! Factory. By the way, I hate that DEAD ALIVE title.

Some new developments! See opening post for cover art and some POTENTIALLY good news.

Now I just have to hope that it will be region free. ;)

The extra footage with Heinrich is so awesome.

I should have this by the weekend.

Ok, so it's the 97 minute cut, AVC/1080p encoding. English DTS-HD 2.0 lossless audio. The only extra is the trailer. Some clickable screen caps:

Please tell me it's region A...just for Lionsgate (who I've supported with mass purchases of their product over the years) to spite me... :nono:

The packaging says it is but I haven't tested it in my Momitsu yet. I will tonight and let you know.

Psyched to rewatch this. I was all about Peter Jackson for a while though, truthfully, I prefer Bad Taste to this one. I remember so clearly when I found out Jackson got the LOTR series, thinking he would never make the same type of movies again.

And he hasn't. :(

Alison Jane

There should be a Peter Jackson thread.

I love all of Jackson's films from before he made the LOTR series. He has a great talent at making horror comedies. But since he became big with LOTR he has seen to have given up on horror. I find LOTR films and his King Kong remakes to be the worst stuff he has done.

Just a heads up that this has quietly gone out of print and is now going for $50 and up on eBay and Amazon.

Word around the campfire is that Wingnut is going to wait until all THE HOBBIT films are done and then license BAD TASTE/MEET THE FEEBLES/BRAINDEAD (DEAD ALIVE) to somebody, but I really hope that they were just waiting for Lionsgate's rights to BRAINDEAD (DEAD ALIVE) to expire because it'll suck to have to wait two more years for these films to get remastered Blu-rays.

Ian Jane
02-19-2013, 08:12 PM
Yeah, but wasn't that the word years back - he was going to remaster and re-release all the old stuff after he was done with the LOTR trilogy?

Derrick King
02-19-2013, 08:27 PM
Yes. When Jackson was promoting THE LOVELY BONES he mentioned that remastered, special edition Blu-rays for his first three films were going to happen but they obviously didn't.

In any event, Cliff confirmed over at the blu-ray.com forums (http://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.php?p=7076142&postcount=5692) that he tried to talk to Wingnut but they are waiting until they are all finished with THE HOBBIT movies.

Posted mine to Amazon. Wasn't something I was gonna get rid of, but if someone wants to pay me the ridiculous prices that's going for they can have it.

If you get that much for it, let me know :)

I would love it if we got a legitimate early films of Peter Jackson box set, maybe everything through Forgotten Silver. The Blu of Dead Alive is pretty much crap taken from the DVD master, it definitely looks better than the DVD, but it's not saying much. I'm going to wait for the next Blu to be announced, and then I'll chuck my copy up on Amazon, and hopefully still get a decent amount for it.

Swiped this from a FB grou posting. Seems there are 'uncut' editions being offered on eBay from a German seller. It also seems that they're bootlegs, with the missing footage spliced into the HD Lionsgate release from an SD source.

So there is a 'limited edition' Blu-ray/DVD combo pack media book release out now in Europe.

http://www.mediaquelle.at/shop/product_info.php?products_id=33659

Not sure how legit it is or what cut it contains.

More here. Supposedly the 109 minute cut with Eng. options.

So it's uncut then? And is it HD or upscaled? A lot of the old Austrian mediabook releases were bootlegs, don't know how it is nowadays. I will wait for the official edition, not taking a chance on this absolute gem of a film. The fact that this was released in my country UNCUT back when our censorship was still going strong is weird. Had the Swedish VHS as a kid, such a funny film. Maybe even the Swedish censors laughed at let it through without butchering it.

A poster on blu-ray.com says this edition, which is fairly cheap, is Eng. friendly and of decent quality.

A 4K release of Meet the Feebles. What's wrong with this world. :haha:

The world’s biggest problem is the current lack of availability of a 4K release of Meet the Feebles!

Bad Taste is getting restored as well it seems.

Hollywood Reporter interview with Jackson (https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/peter-jackson-returns-naughty-years-release-early-films-1166096) about restoring his for four films.

I'm in for 3 of the 4 & the colorization of the WWI footage is pretty damn amazing. Definitely heads n' tails above past colorized footage!

Ian Jane

"Of all his early films, Jackson says 1987’s Bad Taste is the most in need of restoration because the original negative became moldy after he stored it under his bed."

Haha.
