Rewatched Sex and Fury last night after many years and pretty much forgetting what it was about but remembering that I dug it. I think this was one of the first pinky violence flicks that I watched and it's definitely held up in my impressions. Reiko Ike is a complete badass in this film (as she is in everything I've seen her in) and I wonder why her film career was so short- only acting bewteen the ages of eighteen and twenty-six. Seems she could have gone on forever though it's kind of awesome when someone stays in our mind young and super cool. She probably married some dumbass who wouldn't let her act anymore. It's kind of neat that she had troubles with the law for a lot of the things that go on in the movies she's in and probably the reason she's so believable. I just wish her tattoos were real.

So yeah, Sex and Fury is pretty great. I'm curious about the significance of the cards. I get the significance to Ike's character but why did her dad have them in the first place? They must have meant something as the three people she went after had those tattoos. Sometimes I feel like I miss some meaning in films that I really want to get.

TGHS: Lynch Law Classroom is also pretty rad but honestly, I prefer Miki Sugimoto in that one.

I need to watch more of Ike's films.

Same here. I need to watch more. She's so gorgeous. So far I think Delinquent Girl Boss is my favorite, but I've only watched a few. Is she still alive?

Is she still alive?

I'm guessing she should be, as she was only born in '53, but one never knows. Here's her wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reiko_Ike) entry, and check out that quote from R!S!P!'s own Ian Jane! ;)

PS: The cards, from memory, were standard playing cards (much like poker cards, I guess). You see similar decks in Korean films as well.

PPS: Is the below what you were looking for, Alison? Or was it different images from that sequence? (Still had the file on my PC)

I figured, but why would the three people she had to kill have the tattoos on their backs? Seems there was more of a reason for her dad to have them...

Did it also have something to do with animals on the cards signifying the people she was after? I forget! I'll watch it again after I've finished my reviews for Screem. ;)

Huh. Wikipedia quote. Cool. Go me. I have a great Japanese one sheet kicking around here somewhere with her and Chiba on it that is from Street Fighter's Last Revenge. Should get it framed...

I can never remember which is which of Sex & Fury and the sequel. I wasn't a massive fan of either but I remember they had 1 great scene each. One of them begins with an awesome naked parasol fight and the other ends with a mass fight in a bar that had to have been an influence on Kill Bill. Her music is cool too though it can be embarrasing when the iPods on random and it comes up on the stereo in mixed company. My gal used to do a stage act where she mimed an orgasm to one of those tracks.

I would like to own this.

Count me in as a fan too! I loves me some Reiko! I like the fact that her "bad girl" persona was not just an act but that she really was a wild woman outside the studio as well. I think her real life "dokufu" antics lend her a sort of street cred that the others of her era are missing. Don't get me wrong because I like Meiko Kaji & Miki Sugimoto as much as the next guy but something about Reiko just makes me go crazy for her.

It still pisses me off that there are so many pinky violence titles out there yet to get released on this side of the pond with subs. I know there are bootlegs available and all that but it baffles my mind that the cult film community doesn't seem as interested in this stuff as they should be (they couldn't keep Panik House afloat...).

Yeah, that's when the early stuff started coming in so there definitely are more fans out there now. The big shame is that these studios that own the rights *coughToeicough* don't throw subs on these to sell more internationally, although we've heard those reasons on why before.

I love watching Japanese movies about women beating the shit out of people.

I love Reiko (and made her my avatar)!! Finally got around to picking up The Bedevilled. I've read mixed things about that one, but I figure that Reiko could go a long way to make up for any deficiencies.

How common was it for these Pinky Violence stars to sing naked in the studio anyway? :eyebrows:

here's Miki Sugimoto:

Not that often I'm sure, but she does look good doing it.
