I'm digging that Dark Angel cover art. Haven't seen that movie in years.

Looks awesome: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pim4GLxxr00

I also see that they're putting Little Cigars out. Does MGM do any sales on the MOD's?

No interest to pick up a genuine DVD from MGM UK (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Dark-Angel-DVD/dp/B0006IWQDU/ref=sr_1_3?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1313476924&sr=1-3) (sure, it's PAL, but I know you're region-free) over a DVD-R? Sure the R2 edition will work out cheaper than the MOD version... ;)

Didn't realize it had come out in the UK. Will wait and see what the transfer is like on the MOD version and go for the best/cheapest option.

Yeah, Dark Angel's been out for five years or more in the UK and here in Oz.

MOD, watching the ideology from an o/s perspective, is an interesting one for me. As a global, DVD region-free, consumer if something's not available locally I just turn to the internet and collect the films I want from overseas (be that the US, UK, Germany, Hong Kong, Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore...wherever they're available).

Whilst I can see that the MOD option gives US folk, who either aren't region-free or unwilling to import, the opportunity to pick up titles that otherwise have never seen release domestically -- what surprises me is just how many of the MOD titles from the majors have already been released in other territories. These two titles in this topic are a good example: they're both first-time releases in the US, albeit in the inferior DVD-R format, but Quatermass has had two releases in the UK (inclusive of the up-coming budget re-release from Icon) and Dark Angel is readily available as a budget release (16:9 anamorphic, mind you) in the UK, Europe and much of the Asia-Pacific region. I saw the local release, which is the MGM edition and identical to the UK version, in a bargain stall yesterday for $5.99AUD.

But as I said, I guess it's an reasonable alternative (though largely overpriced and on inferior media to a manufactured retail disc) for those not interested, or unable, to import. ;)

PS: This was meant in no way as a crack or dig at anyone here. Just some musings in relation to the fact that a good percentage of dedicated genre fans went the region-free (for either DVD or BD) route many years ago and import, that's all. As I said, MOD serves a purpose for everyone else.

There was cover art for THE QUATERMASS XPERIMENT that showed the studio was going to put it out under it's American title of THE CREEPING UNKNOWN, with it's original title posted in smaller script underneath, now I have heard the studio is revamping the cover so it will eventually go out under it's original title. And it IS the UNCUT version.

Here' what the cover was originally supposed to look like. I'm glad they're going with the movie's original title.

Watching DARK ANGEL, in preparation for a review. A little disappointed in the transfer. It's rather dark. I hear, though, the UK release is quite good lookin'. Anyone got that one?
