I just did a film noir shoot for a new film I'm shooting. Haven't done the fine work (evening out skin tones etc) but they're looking pretty cool:

Nice job with the lighting in all of those.

Super basic set up as you can probably tell to maximise contrast. No fill light- just a Key and a Back light. Will be lighting most of the actual film the same way. I figure any shot is saveable in post as long as you shoot with shit loads of contrast.

Nothing wrong with basic if it does what you need it to! We've got a basic lighting kit at work that we use all the time for product shots and most of the time it does the trick. Just simple fills, probably similar to what you used - but if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
