Has anyone actually seen it? It does look potentially rad.

The nude guy reminds me of [REC], which wasn't good.

Not yet - it's currently available VOD but at $9.99 it seems a bit steep. I really enjoyed House of the Devil, tho', and am interested in this one...

Magnolia has got some limited theatrical dates coming up for this one:

We were in the mood for something scary over the weekend so went ahead and sprung the $7.99 to watch this On Demand. Reminiscent of "House of the Devil" to the extent that the majority of the film involves a build-up and character development leading to a big shock ending. Slow moving at times, but never boring, and when the ghosts show up things get very creepy. Recommended if you liked HotD. I read elsewhere someone opining that Ti West is on the brink of something great, but hasn't quite gotten there yet, and that more or less sums up my general impression of this new movie.

A nifty Mexican standee for the movie from it's theatrical release south of the border!

Thought it was alright. Had some good creepy stuff in it, but not enough. Too much talking and not enough went on till the end really. Maybe West should give some kind of long-form tv series a shot.

Watched it last night and I'm on the same page as you. It took a bit too long to get going and the pay off, while decent, could and should have been stronger. I will say that I liked the two lead characters enough that the slow pace didn't bug me, but yeah, the first half doesn't do much where it could have set up a lot more and made for a better movie. The bits in the basement are really well done, but I think the movie would have been better without the 'reveal' that happens once or twice in the movie (trying to be vague to avoid spoilers). Some good atmosphere though, the old man character was an interesting addition but Alison and I both figured out what he was up to before he did it.

All in all, a solid movie worth seeing if you like a good ghost story but not a masterpiece.

I liked it quite a bit. It had a creepy feel to it. Just seemed like it ended with a lot of questions remaining.

Pretty cool that the Yankee Pedlar Inn in the movie is a real place:

And supposedly with some real ghosts!

That is cool. Is the site that Luke is working on in the movie their real website? That'd be neat.

Haha, no. That site in the movie was rad in its awfulness though.

Watched this last night. I'm another in the "too slow in the first hour" camp but I thought it got genuinely creepy in the last half hour. Was watching this alone in the house with the lights out and when the girl hears a voice calling her name it gave me chills, sounded almost like it was in my house, haha. Far from perfect but worth a look just the same I think.

Did you take the disc's advice and turn up the audio nice and loud? It made a difference, I thought. A lot of great subtle use of sound in this movie.

Yeah, I did. The voice I mentioned was coming out of the left speaker over near the wall and it sounded like someone was downstairs - really did give me a start! The sound added a lot to the subtle chills.

This is playing at the Dryden Theatre in Rochester, NY on June 9th, and Pat Healy will be there doing a Q&A. Might try to go....
