SHRIEK OF THE SASQUATCH not withstanding, which has it's own thread, here are three that are gonna be coming in 2012, I assume, and one that's out already on DVD.

THE LOST COAST TAPES

FACEBOOK (https://www.facebook.com/thelostcoasttapes)

Brief article (http://www.firstshowing.net/2011/big-foot-pov-horror-flick-the-lost-coast-tapes-up-for-sale-at-afm/) about the movie. I'm not a fan of found footage movies, but they tell me on their facebook page this is a flick for people like me who DON'T like them. Okay, then. All there is right now is this very cool poster.

SAVAGE is the only one I feel rather luck warm about. It's currently playing on Pay-Per-View, but have not bought it, for fear it might suck. The BIGFOOT reminds a little bit of a Gargantua. The trailer for EVIDENCE is quite creepy, and makes me wonder if that thing is really a Bigfoot to begin with.

You've heard of Monsters-From-The-Id, well, I think, PRIMITIVE is the first Bigfoot-From-The-Id flick.

A scene from BIGFOOT (1970). I don't know if this is my kind of bad Bigfoot movie. These kind of movies have to hit me just right, and so far this one has only given me a limp wristed bitch slap. Poster got the wrong actor listed, too. It's Carradine not Cassavetes.

For some reason that link isn't allowed at work. I have mixed feelings about that picture. Where I think its awesome they have a guy in a suit instead of motion capture CG, that mouth looks really, REALLY stupid.

Shawn Francis
01-23-2012, 01:02 PM
My only complaints about the creature is that it looks TOO much of a primate. Looks more like a monster that belongs in a jungle horror movie. And it looks too small. It looks about the size of an average human. I hope they film it so you get the impression that it's huge. They probably won't, but one can still dream. Having said that, I still think it's cool looking. Real test will be how it looks moving around and killing people.

Cheezy Flicks is putting it out. I assume then it's a boot?

Got an early copy, tape sourced but watchable (a few tracking lines early one, then it clears up). Full review later this week. It's definitely cropped from whatever its original widescreen aspect ratio was.

Ian Jane
02-20-2012, 02:01 PM
Oh, also, Haji (from Faster, Pussycat... Kill! Kill!) pops up in this briefly. And it has a weird scene with a bigfoot grave in it.

Shawn Francis
02-20-2012, 02:21 PM
Got a friend who's sending me a copy. Hmmm, need to see what the original AR is. If it's 2.35:1, forget it. I HATE when those kind of AR movies are cropped. You're not seeing the full picture. Heading off to IMDB.

Shawn Francis
02-20-2012, 02:23 PM
IMDB says 1.85:1, well, if I actually like the movie, seeing a cropping of that ratio isn't TOO bad. Not missing as much picture as a cropped 2.35:1 flick. Looking forward to the review, Ian.

I haven't seen Harry & The Hendersons since I was about 10, so I have no idea if it holds up. John Lithgow is pretty rad, though. That poster for Eaglewalk does look pretty amazing, I see a move back to awesome posters in genre films instead of the typical "photos of 3-5 twentysomethings" that became so prevalent in the 90's/early-00's.

edit: watched the trailer, that movie actually looks pretty solid. Looking forward to checking it out.

When I was working over at Troma, I did the menus for this flick they acquired, which was actually legitimately funny. It's amateurish and cheapjack, but the people who wrote and acted in it completely got the joke and made it work pretty well. I actually ended up watching it a couple of times because it completely cracked me up. It's about a group of camping friends who encounter a cult that worships a yeti that rapes fratboys. Yes, you heard that right. Now I know that this is a Bigfoot thread, but I figured a Yeti was close enough.

Saw Eaglewalk play at Screamfest last week. Where did these people come from? Legit homage to F13 and hands down the best Bigfoot flick I've seen. Old school horror and crazy, crazy kills. F**ing legit. Just saying.

And I think adding "Bigfoot" to the "Lost Coast Tapes" title was a big mistake. Lumps it in with every other bad Sasquatch movie that has Bigfoot in the title. Who's with me?

Watched BIGFOOT THE LOST COAST TAPES. It's a slow burner for the first hour but manages to maintain a fair amount of interest with some eerie doings and weird noises. The whole thing is found footage style. Like it says on the cover, Bigfoot is hiding but not from us, and that makes for a pretty unique tale. Don't want to spoil anything so I won't go into detail but the ending is creepy enough to sit through this. Several deaths so this has a little in common with the backwoods slashers.

We should all write some nonsense about a giant monster in the wilderness in a notebook...seal it up...bury it......and in 1000 years time someone will dig it up and, there will be documentries about how in 2012 giant monsters roamed the earth...

"After massive footprints were found in northern California in the early '50s, newspaper reporters coined the term 'Bigfoot.' As the legend of Bigfoot grew the term became synonymous with the Native American creature known as Sasquatch. Accounts of a creature six to nine feet tall, covered head to foot in dark fur and possessing super human strength have only increased in the video age. There are hundreds of new sightings each year as well as new video and audio evidence and other breakthroughs such as DNA tested hair and skin samples. In recent years, the search for the creature has gained world wide attention and valuable support from the scientific community. Today, after decades of searching, the modern day Sasquatch hunter is armed with the latest technology in search of the beast. Join us as we delve into the psyche of several Sasquatch hunters, and learn what they do and don't believe. From theories to known facts, today's Sasquatch hunters are closing in in the elusive creature who may hold the key to our own evolution."

Cool FX for this flick. It needs to get kickstarted though -- "Primal Rage: The Legend of Oh-Mah is a character-based thriller thrown into the claws of Bigfoot as Bigfoot has never been seen before. It is PREDATOR meets FIRST BLOOD with this re-envisioning of the Bigfoot legends."

Watching the Asylum's BIGFOOT. They just called Bigfoot an urban legend. Racist.

Too much CGI. BGIFOOT.

I have a check disc for BIGFOOT WARS. Watching it tonight. I'm expecting to be let down on a SyFy channel level. But who knows miracles do happen.

BIGFOOT WARS.... holy shit! Second worst movie I've seen this year. Doesn't even run movie length. It's only 1hr 12 minutes long. No suspense, bad acting, only things that were up to snuff were the gore FX. On his FB page, author, Eric Brown, is hosting a local premiere of the movie this weekend. I don't think he's seen the finished product yet. If I were him I would have viewed it BEFORE holding that premiere. He has my condolences.

Eduardo Sanchez just got done doing a radio interview. Here are the highlights:

His next foray into Killer Squatch flicks might be for TV. He's trying to get an EXISTS TV series greenlit. And he's got two other movies about to be greenlit, one about Neanderthals and one he wouldn't get into only saying it's going to be a horror movie. I had no idea Sanchez has been fascinated by Bigfoot most of his life. He almost had a big budget Squatch movie greenlit by Legendary studios but once they partnered up with Warner that studio killed the project. Thanks, WB. Also I didn't know the last time there was a Bigfoot movie that was released theatrically was HARRY AND THE HENDERSONS (1987). There hasn't been one since. EXISTS comes close since it got a limited theatrical release.

Oh, and he revealed he did a commentary for the EXISTS DVD and blu-ray and there'll also be a documentary on it about the making of the movie. Sweet!

He also says he went found footage with EXISTS because to him Bigfoot is a found footage monster. Almost everything we know about the creature is through found footage. Yeah, that's a solid defense. I'll buy that.

Stomping Grounds comes out on DVD tomorrow.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S8nlUFTYdAw&feature=youtu.be

"
Stomping Ground is an independent horror-comedy about Bigfoot from director Dan Riesser, former producer of E!'s The Soup. John Bobek, Tarah DeSpain, Jeramy Blackford and Justin Giddings star, with a special appearance by Theresa Tilly (The Evil Dead).

"Everyone from Team Stomping Ground is thrilled to finally get to unleash our film into the world," states Riesser. "Every member of the cast and crew worked really hard bringing it to life. We hope folks enjoy our different sort of Bigfoot creature feature."

Stomping Ground cast and crew members - including Riesser and Tilly - will celebrate the film's release with a signing at Dark Delicacies in Burbank, CA on March 8th at 7pm. The cast and crew will also be in attendance for a special screening of the film at Laemmle's Playhouse 7 in Pasadena, CA on March 10th at 7:30pm.

Limited edition Stomping Ground DVDs, which include an 11x17 poster signed by the cast and crew, can be pre-ordered directly from BrinkVision.com. The movie is also available for pre-order through Amazon.

Stomping Ground is the story of Ben and Annie, a young couple on a weekend trip to Annie’s small North Carolina hometown. At the local bar they run into Paul, a charming old friend of Annie’s, and Ben learns something he never knew about his girlfriend: She believes in Bigfoot. In fact, she and her friends used to “hunt” for the creature when they were kids. Before Ben knows it, he’s off on an impromptu Squatchin’ trip deep in the Carolina backwoods. Amidst the Squatch calls, campfire stories and beers, Ben quickly realizes that Paul may have an ulterior motive in bringing Annie to the woods. And something else out here seems to be after her as well. Everyone but Ben thinks its Bigfoot. But it can’t be, can it? After all, Bigfoot isn’t real."

This popped up on a FB discussion - anyone know anything about it? Doesn't seem to be readily available, no legit DVD release that I can find and not even a torrent seems to be around.

The IMDB comments make it sound pretty fun.

Long time lurker, I registered a few months ago, but this is my first post…

Ian, I have seen this, and while it is not non-stop horror like others of this genre, it still has its moments, as a sasquatch clan kills members of a hippie commune setting up camp near the creatures' living area.

Not sure where the title came from. I guess the filmmakers used "sasqua" thinking that's plural for sasquatch (and maybe it is)?

James Whitworth (who played Papa Jupiter in THE HILLS HAVE EYES) is probably the most well-known actor in the film, maybe even the only actor familiar to anyone. I think he's the head of the commune.

I'm a sucker for any bigfoot flick. (This one was shot in Massachusetts, and being from there, I'm also a sucker for any horror movies set in that state.) One of my most-desired films is in this genre as well, the 1979 REVENGE OF BIGFOOT. It was made in Arkansas by Harry Thomason (THE DAY IT CAME TO EARTH, SO SAD ABOUT GLORIA, ENCOUNTER WITH THE UNKNOWN), and it seems lost at this point.

I acquired it two decades ago in the days of my trading tapes with other collectors. There were a couple who provided a handful of pretty exclusive titles, and this came from one of them. It still has the timecode running at the bottom of the print.

I think there might be copies out there that were released into the internet ether recently.

Ha, so it's got time code on it? Was it a work print maybe?

I'll look again at the usual spots to see if anything comes up.

Hey, Bruce! Yep, still out there building the collection, and frequently checking Cinema Arcana for upcoming releases. Thanks for that.

And so as not to hijack this thread, below is a list (not including HARRY AND THE HENDERSONS) of bigfoot/yeti/abominable snowman flicks I've seen. I figure they're all about primate-like cryptids so deserve to be catalogued together. Most are horror films. I've listed aka titles for a few, and what the source was if it's not in my collection.

ABOMINABLE SNOWMAN OF THE HIMALAYAS (1957)
AJOOBA KUDRAT KA (1991; Indian)
BEAST AND THE VIXENS (aka BEAUTIES AND THE BEAST; 1974)
BIGFOOT (1970)
BIGFOOT (2006; watched this on Video on Demand)
BIGFOOT COUNTY (2012; watched this on Video on Demand)
BIGFOOT: LOST COAST TAPES (2012; watched this on Video on Demand)
BIGFOOT: MAN OR BEAST (1970)
BOGGY CREEK II (1984)
CAPTURE OF BIGFOOT (1979)
CREATURE FROM BLACK LAKE (1976)
CRY WILDERNESS (1987)
CURSE OF BIGFOOT (1975)
DEMONWARP (1988)
EXISTS (2014)
GEEK (1971)
HALF HUMAN (1958)
IN SEARCH OF BIGFOOT (1976)
IN THE SHADOW OF BIGFOOT (1977)
LEGEND OF BIGFOOT (1975)
LEGEND OF BOGGY CREEK (1972)
LEGEND OF THE DESERT BIGFOOT (1995)
MAN BEAST (1956)
MONSTER OF THE VOLCANO (1963; Mexican)
MYSTERIOUS MONSTERS (1975)
NIGHT OF THE DEMON (1980)
NIGHT OF THE HOWLING BEAST (aka THE WEREWOLF VS. THE YETI; 1975)
RETURN TO BOGGY CREEK (1977)
SASQUA (1975)
SASQUATCH (aka THE UNTOLD; 2002)
SASQUATCH: LEGEND OF BIGFOOT (1976)
SASQUATCH MOUNTAIN (aka DEVIL ON THE MOUNTAIN; 2006)
SEARCH FOR THE BEAST (1997)
SHRIEK OF THE MUTILATED (1974)
SNOWBEAST (1979)
SNOW CREATURE (1954)
SNOW DEVILS (1967)
SUBURBAN SASQUATCH (2004; didn't watch the whole thing, as I couldn't get past the CGI)
THEY CALL HIM SASQUATCH (2003; comedy with Neal McDonough)
WILD MAN OF THE NAVIDAD (2008)
YETI (1977)

And these are some borderline titles...

BLOOD BEAST OF MONSTER MOUNTAIN (aka LEGEND OF BLOOD MOUNTAIN; 1965/1976)
EYES IN THE DARK (2010; saw this on YouTube)
FEAR RUNS SILENT (2000)
JAANI DUSHMAN (1979; Indian)
SCREAMS OF A WINTER NIGHT (1979)
TANYA'S ISLAND (1980)
TEENAGERS BATTLE THE THING (1958; film from which footage for CURSE OF BIGFOOT was taken)

Believe it or not, this is less than half of the bigfoot, etc. flicks out there. Most of the ones I haven't seen were made in the last decade!

As Mike said in the RLM video, I can't tell if the director is clueless or he's pulling an Andy Kaufman.

He also had some bad CG and his mother singing the end theme song, so there's that.

Thanks to the latest Red Letter Media video I watched Demonwarp. It has some good qualities to it, namely the effects and titties, but there's not much gore to it. I like the ideas it had and the last 20 minutes were kind of fun.

I still think Night of the Demon is top dog of the Bigfoot gore flicks:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dKWm3JC39iE

James Rolfe showcases nearly all of the gore scenes in the above video but it's worth it. If I had it my way, Night of the Demon would be remastered for 2K, 7.1 surround sound Blu, released by Criterion and with a commentary by Roger Ebert. "Roger Ebert is dead" you might say, well my solution is to grab every piece of audio he's ever done and assemble that into a commentary. It would totally be worth it.

Y'know, normally I'd say Night of the Demon (indeed the best bigfoot gore movie ever) benefits from a shitty, dark VHS transfer as opposed to HD, but your pitch just sold me. Bring on the Roger Ebert approved Criterion Blu!

I have a really crummy taped sourced DVD that may be of dubious legality - not an ideal presentation by a long shot. Will be nice to see this get a proper HD transfer.
