It's been years but apparantly it's finally happening.

You can get a fancy four disc set that supposedly has both cuts of the 1st movie, the 2nd movie, and a disc full of extras here (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006L4MX4A/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=cognitrespon-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B006L4MX4A).

Or you can get a single disc version of the first movie here (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006L4MX0Y/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=cognitrespon-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B006L4MX0Y).

No more details than that yet. I almost bought the Arrow release a few weeks back, glad I held off.

42 students, Three days, One survivor – No Escape. Welcome to the world of Battle Royale!

Battle Royale:

In the near future, the economy has collapsed, unemployment has soared and juvenile crime has exploded. Fearful of their nation’s youth, the Japanese government passes The BR Law: Each year, a 9th grade class is sent to a remote island where they will be locked into exploding neck collars, given a random weapon, and forced to hunt and kill each other until there is only one survivor left. Chiaki Kuriyama (Kill Bill) and screen legend Takeshi Kitano (Boiling Point, Brother) star in the movie that has been argued, acclaimed and banned around the world. More than a decade later, it remains one of the most savage, shocking and emotionally powerful films of all time. Now experience the complete Director’s Cut of Kinji Fukasaku’s uncompromising masterpiece – nominated for 10 Japanese Academy Awards® – available uncensored and unrated for the first time ever in America.

Battle Royale: The Complete Collection:

In 2000, director Kinji Fukasaku unleashed Battle Royale, his violently poetic epic about an innocent group of Junior High students forced by the government to hunt and kill their classmates for sport. It was nominated for 10 Japanese Academy Awards®, launched a global phenomenon, and banned from screens by frightened civic groups and distributors across America. Three years later, the equally disturbing sequel – featuring a new class, new rules, and a brutal terrorist plot by the first film’s young survivors – triggered its own tragic firestorm around the world. Now for the first time ever, you can see it all: Experience the entire Battle Royale saga on 4 discs that forever blasts open one of the most potent, shocking and savagely influential sagas in motion picture history.

Since when has the sequel been considered a sacred cinematic classic?

Ian Jane
02-17-2012, 10:09 AM
Yeah I think that's a bit of hyperbole on AB's part.

47lab
03-06-2012, 12:29 AM
I was fortunate enough to have seen the director's cut when it played theatrically last year in LA & it was definitely a memorable experience enjoying a true classic with like minded fans in a cozy theater like Cine Family. Alas, I already own the R2 Blu-ray from Arrow & the enticement of BRII isn't enough for me to double dip but you never know. :eyebrows:

Ian Jane
03-09-2012, 02:53 PM
The Arrow LE set has a fair bit more supplemental material on it that didn't get ported over to the AB release too.

There are no extras related to BRII at all on the AB set (the movie stinks but there isn't even a trailer?) and the omitted the Revenge cut of BRII, so it's not quite a definitive set.

47lab
03-10-2012, 12:39 AM
yeah, that's a glaring omission that AB omitted the revenge version of BRII. I see the Arrow LE # set is still available but they jacked up the price to nearly 40 quid now.

Alex K.
03-10-2012, 12:56 AM
Is the revenge version of BR2 better? Because I thought BR2 had a pretty good opening but trailed horribly off course with -to be frank- the most retarded anarchistic philosophy I have ever experienced in my life. No joke.

BTW: Terrorists and guerrilla groups and etc DO NOT use the AK-47 because it "symbolizes freedom and anarchy and all that" they use the AK-47 because the weapon will work regardless of circumstance. It requires little maintenance and will fire regardless of weather, storage, or wear and tear on the barrel.

That whole 5 minute in the sequence praising the AK-47 as a symbol of freedom and shit really pissed me off.

Ian Jane
03-10-2012, 10:57 AM
The AK-47 is the least of the movie's problems!

I've never seen the Revenge Cut of BR II, sadly. It's 20 minutes longer and supposedly better in that it has more going on character wise.

Alex K.

Ouch.
