I'm not even a big Kraftwerk fan but seeing them do that at the MOMA might be pretty fucking boss.

ROAD TRIP!

That is fucking UNREAL. I had planned on coming down the next month for the Black n Blue Bowl (heads up, Ian and Alison), but this is insane.

I'm seriously considering throwing down for this. But getting tickets is gonna be a bitch.

Mark Tolch

Not if you go on trans-europe express night. :-D

So in an ongoing effort to broaden my horizons I tried listening to the Man Machine album. It's okay as far as background music goes but I'm not really going nuts over it or anything.

Ian Jane

OK, Autobahn is pretty cool. I like it better than Man Machine.

Tickets go on sale 2/22:

I always recommend to people that the place to start with Kraftwerk is The Mix album. And I agree, Ian. I like them, and I dig Man Machine, but they're not a band that I put on when i'm gonna shadow-dance in my living room. Usually driving music, or background music, or in the case of my teenage years, light a candle in a dark room, eat a fuckton of acid and trip your balls off music.

Mark Tolch
02-16-2012, 04:56 PM
25 bucks is a no-brainer. I like also that you can only go to two shows out of the entire run. Stops people from camping out in the MoMA for a week straight.

I'm curious what your go to band is for shadow dancing in your living room.

Yeah, it was fine for making spreadsheets happen this morning and editing some .ai files.

Mark Tolch
02-16-2012, 06:21 PM
And i would take RADIOACTIVITY over AUTOBAHN.

Ian Jane
02-16-2012, 06:34 PM
For shadow dancing or just in general?

Mark Tolch
02-16-2012, 09:14 PM
Shadow dancing is all about The Cars. Radioactivity in general.

Ian Jane
02-17-2012, 10:08 AM
I will give that one a spin later.

Autobahn is my favourite Kraftwerk, some of their early stuff when they were more of a psych-rock band is also worth checking out. Somewhere out there on the interwebs is an amazing live set they did on Radio Bremen with the dudes from Neu that is heavy, great stuff.

Mark Tolch
02-18-2012, 01:35 PM
Ian has not noticed my comment about attending BNB yet. Or is ignoring them.

Roderick
02-18-2012, 03:25 PM
I will second the recommendation for that Bremen boot. Great stuff. As for their albums the German version of Computer World is usually my go to record.

Roderick

Well, fuck. I tried for tickets but crapped out. I successfully got into two cues but never hooked up with anything. I might have had better luck but I was at work and the most annoying person in the office came up to talk to me right when tickets went on sale. The servers were sketching out due to the heavy load so I was trying to brush off this jerk while feverishly trying to get into the cue. Nobody bugged me all morning until right then. GAH!

Ian Jane
02-22-2012, 02:32 PM
Doh! And we'd cleared out a spot for you and everything.

The comments on that blog rule.

"The music was boring as shit. I get why they're "influential" but it's dance music you can't fucking dance to. I'm glad these guys did what they did with synths and sweeps so dudes who know how to fuck could take over and make this kind of music awesome."

"The museum staff told me to stop breakdancing poorly"

Okay, I made that one up.

So Kraftwerk is doing another residency in London, but the Tate Modern apparently did not learn any lessons (http://www.nme.com/news/kraftwerk/67679) from the ticketing debacle that happened when they did their NYC residency.

In other Krafwerk related news, producer Conny Plank has a retrospective boxed set coming out on Feb 11 (http://thequietus.com/articles/10938-conny-plank-who-s-that-man-tribute-album).

And Karl Bartos has a new album coming out March 2013 (http://www.synthtopia.com/content/2012/11/27/new-album-from-kraftwerks-karl-bartos-off-the-record/) based on material he recorded while he was still a member of Kraftwerk.

So it didn't come out in March of 2013, but it's happening.

I LOVE reading interviews (few as they are) with those guys. I can't listen to Kraftwerk non-stop or anything, but they are friggin' geniuses.

"Beginning on March 18, the German group (which features just one of its founding members, Ralf Hütter) will perform two shows a night for four nights in a row. Similar to their 2012 MoMA residency, the man-machines will perform eight Kraftwerk studio LPs in chronological order during the run, beginning with 1974’s Autobahn and concluding with 2003’s Tour de France."

Kraftwerk are a class act. When they were playing at MOMA Stefan Pfaffe and their video crew came in to my job to get equipment. I told them the show sold out before I could get tickets, and they not only got us on the guest list, but also welcomed us at the show and made sure we got in ok. Hope I can catch them again as it is one hell of a show.

I really want them to tour. Even without Florian, I'd like to see them before I die.

tickets are on sale tomorrow morning for the presale. I have potential presale codes. Otherwise I'll hope for the best. But even if i have to sit at the back of the balcony, I'm on it.

Mark Tolch

Mezzanine, Front and Centre. Perfect for a show like this in the venue......where you have to take in visuals, as well. AND, it keeps you away from the backpack wearing raver kids.

Okay, I've got to do a proper review for the show, it's been nuts around here, but Saturday's show was fuckin amazing. Last time they toured, people complained that they were sitting up there running the show off of their laptops, and that it was boring. I knew what to expect here, I'd seen the videos, but that definitely didn't prepare me for the show itself, which was a total audio/visual attack. I think that my brain spit up about 8 years of premium LSD use from back storage as soon as The Robots came on. All synths and beats, it was just awesome.

Oh, it's a camera pic. But the screen is actually blurry...cause it's 3D. They didn't give me glasses for the camera. Jerks.

I saw a few other pictures from this recent tour, it looks like it would have been a pretty fun show.
