The catch? They're all fucking Walmart exclusives. But I don't care. I will venture into the consumer Hell that is Walmart to get these on my birthday. Oh yes, I will.

It's the summer of Chuck! At least being BD these won't be buried under 40 copies of fullscreen WAR OF THE WORLDS in a filled-to-the-rim bin. I will get DELTA FORCE and MIA 1 for sure.

Ian Jane
04-06-2012, 03:18 PM
I don't think we'll get more than trailers as far as extras go but I'm assuming these will at least be in their proper widescreen aspect ratios, a nice change from the fullframe MGM DVDs.

Mark Tolch

How did they know that your birthday was the perfect day to release these?

FACT: If Walmart Canada doesn't have them, i'm crossing the border.

Ian Jane

You might have trouble getting them back into Canada. They could very well be considered weapons of mass destruction.

FUCK YEAH!

I will sell my kidney if I have to to get a region free blu-ray just to enjoy these!

WalMart Canada should have these, I'm thinking. Im definitely getting these either way, even if I have to order from the US! Still keeping my laserdisc of MIA, though! :)

Finally some Bluray love for Chuck Norris!
I really hope all three movies will show up on ebay or amazon after release, because I live in Europe and I can't buy them from US Wal-Mart. I have a BD player in my computer, so don't care about region restrictions at all.

That still blows my mind. USA! USA! ;)

Matt, those screen caps look pretty solid. If anything the BD should improve on those.

Walmart.com has 'em at $12.96 for preorder. The price looks nice! However, I'm still not on the BD train. BDSM, yes, but BD, no.

Yer half way there at least. BDSM leads to high def. I think.

Let's preview the recent situation of Chuck Norris movies on Bluray/HD.

Released movies:
The Way of the Dragon (1972) - http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-Way-of-the-Dragon-Blu-ray/25830/
Forest Warrior (1996) - http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Forest-Warrior-Blu-ray/34744/ < Aspect Ratio: 1.33:1
Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story (2004) - http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Dodgeball-A-True-Underdog-Story-Blu-ray/10311/

It was just announced about these movies:
Missing in Action (1984) - http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Missing-in-Action-Blu-ray/41830/
Missing in Action 2: The Beginning (1985) - http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Missing-In-Action-2-The-Beginning-Blu-ray/41831/
The Delta Force (1986) - http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-Delta-Force-Blu-ray/41829/

Also there exist these movies with possibility to release them on Bluray soon. No actual release dates though.
Braddock: Missing in Action III (1988) - http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Braddock-Missing-in-Action-III-Blu-ray/41833/
Delta Force 2: The Colombian Connection (1990) - http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Delta-Force-2-The-Colombian-Connection-Blu-ray/28257/

Here is a list which movies were shown on HD TV channels (as far as I know):
A Force of One (1979)
Code Of Silence (1985)
Delta Force 2: The Colombian Connection (1990)
Firewalker (1986)
Lone Wolf McQuade (1983)
Missing in Action (1984)
Missing in Action 2: The Beginning (1985)
Braddock: Missing in Action III (1988)
Silent Rage (1982)
The Delta Force (1986)

Need a screenshot of any of these movies? Let me know.

Also I heard somewhere that when MGM HD channel has just started, they shown Breaker! Breaker! (1977). Never seen a HDTV footage or any screenshots of this movie, so I don't know how it looked for real.

In addition, a few digitally remastered (HD) trailers:
A Force of One (1979) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pOHDgVRtVGg (720p)
The Octagon (1980) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U6Icsg0O3jk (1080p)
Good Guys Wear Black (1978) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Yhh3NSlN2c (1080p)

The whole situation looks very promising however I wonder, why no love for Invasion U.S.A. and Forced Vengeance?

Matt, feel free to post caps from any of those MGM HD broadcasts you see fit to bless us with.

Actually, only HDTV rips of Lone Wolf McQuade and Code of Silence are from MGM HD channel.
All other are from some Europe channels (probably UK Sky movies HD and similar). People, who made those HDTV rips, removed channel logo, so I don't know the actual channels. However it's not from MGM HD for sure.

Lone Wolf McQuade screenshot you already saw.

I'm hopeful if these Walmart exclusives do well, we'll see more.
I'm more hopeful that these Walmart exclusives will go on ebay and amazon! Because I want to get them so much.
A success of these exclusives would definitely encourage the studio to release more Chuck Norris movies on Bluray. At least I hope so.

Someone needs to re-release FORCED VENGEANCE (that 1.85:1 ratio doesn't look right; feels more 2.35:1), SILENT RAGE and AN EYE FOR AN EYE.

Ian Jane
05-03-2012, 05:42 PM
It might happen sooner or late, because links just popped up on Amazon for:

CODE OF SILENCE (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007ZXW3NC/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=cognitrespon-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B007ZXW3NC)

and

LONE WOLF McQUADE (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007ZXW382/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=cognitrespon-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B007ZXW382)

No cover art, specs or details yet but they're due 7/17/2012.

This is a good summer to be a Blu-ray loving Chuck Norris fan. I have to think The Expendables 2 is at least partially responsible for these release, and I'm okay with that.

Only MGM seems to be giving Chuck the high def love so far. Octagon isn't with them, so I don't see it happening any time soon (which is a shame as I love that movie - ninjas in trees!). Silent Rage is Columbia, right? I think Forced Vengeance was MGM though, so maybe if these do well...?

Dude. Make the plunge into blu. I got a Dynex for $50 or something, and I'm happy with it, makes Netflix streaming very easy too. I don't even have a 1080p TV yet (just 1080i), but I will eventually. Same thing with the region free aspect. I'll get to it later.

I can't afford it. I can't even afford money to go the movies this year. When I can afford it, you better believe I'll buy myself one. Don't know if it'll happen this year, though. I've been meaning to buy one for years now.

Okay. I just thought if you've been buying dvds anyway, it wouldn't be that much of a stretch, but I don't want to get into all that. Here's wishing all of us good fortune from this moment forward.

Got this photo off of Facebook . . . read the banner, then observe the photo on the banner in the right hand corner . . . does this mean THE OCTAGON might be getting an upgrade? If so, is for the U.S. or overseas, or both? So many questions, not enough answers.

The R1 Good Guys Wear Black came out from HBO, Force Of One and Octagon were Trinity I think.

Curious...

Shawn Francis
05-16-2012, 01:18 PM
Shit, I didn't even look back there, was concentrating too hard on the banner. The real prize here, for me, if it's included, would be FORCED VENGEANCE. I still say FV is in the wrong aspect ratio.

Ian Jane
05-18-2012, 01:52 PM
I'm still pretty sure it's owned by someone else - maybe it got licensed out though? Who knows.

But with that said...

There are apparantly UK BD releases of The Octagon (http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-Octagon-Blu-ray/45425/#Overview) and Force Of One (http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/A-Force-of-One-Blu-ray/45426/) due in the fall.

UK release only?! Ah, come on! I hate when they do that. American movies getting releases in the UK before getting released here gets my back up. I knew there was something coming up, though, after seeing that banner. OCTAGON in blu will probably look good. Shit.

The Octagon is also hitting Blu-ray in the UK (https://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=10150985133718879) 8/6/2012.

The original “Expendable” and the man who once made a stone bleed to death, World Karate Champion turned actor Chuck Norris stars in this kick-ass action movie that almost single-handedly introduced ninjas into mainstream Hollywood cinema.

Chuck Norris (The Expendables 2; Way Of The Dragon), Lee Van Cleef (Escape From New York; The Good, The Bad And The Ugly), cult genre movie icon Art Hindle (Black Christmas; Porky’s; Invasion Of The Body Snatchers), karate expert and bodyguard to the stars Richard Norton (Force: Five; China O’Brien) in his acting debut, prolific character actor Tracey Walter (I Spit On Your Grave; The Silence Of The Lambs; Batman) in one of his classic “uncredited” roles and Karen Carlson (Dallas).

Scott James is a man haunted by memories, eerie flashbacks that plague both his waking and sleeping hours. The first is a childhood memory relating to the intense and rigorous combat training he and his best friend endured under the guidance of a mysterious martial arts master. The second is a far more painful recollection of loss, and one that has turned Scott away from his former life. But when a wealthy heiress convinces him to enter the fray once more, Scott finds himself drawn into an international terrorist organisation consisting of deadly ninjas, at the head of which is a close acquaintance from his past. Now it is up to Scott to confront his worst fears and battle a former adversary in the ultimate ninja showdown.

As far as we are concerned, the only way to improve a Chuck Norris movie is to introduce ninjas into the mix and show us the goods in Hi-Def. This Blu-ray release does both. Throw in a bizarre voice-over expressing Chuck’s inner thoughts and we’re talking all-time-fave Chuck madness. A major cult favorite amongst fans of 1980s martial arts flicks, this was one of the first US films to exploit the ancient art of the ninja and spawned countless imitators, but none ever came close to its all round awesomeness. It’s also notable as being the vehicle for Richard Norton’s acting debut. And if you thought Chuck couldn’t be a ninja, then beware. He’s right behind you. Go ahead; take a look. It’ll be the last thing you’ll ever see.

A Force Of One is also coming to UK Blu....

A Force Of One
On DVD & Blu-Ray 06 Aug 2012

The original “Expendable”, the undisputed toughest guy on the planet and the only man ever to have counted to infinity – twice, the second time backwards! – World Karate Champion turned actor Chuck Norris stars in this classic, groundbreaking US kung fu movie, now on Blu-ray for the first time.
Well, Chuck Norris (The Expendables 2; Way Of The Dragon), obviously, but also Oscar-winning screenwriter Ernest Tidyman (The French Connection; Shaft), screen beauty Jennifer O’Neill (Scanners), cult 1980s horror icon Clu Gulager (Piranha 3D; A Nightmare On Elm Street Part 2; The Return Of The Living Dead) and legendary kickboxer Bill Wallace (The Protector).
A routine investigation by a crack team of undercover narcotic agents becomes anything but when a deadly assassin begins to eliminate the members of the squad one by one. In a desperate bid to identify the culprit, and to train its officers in the martial arts in order to defend themselves, the police force attempts to enlist the help of Matt Logan, a noted karate champion.

Initially reluctant to become involved in any way, Logan soon changes his mind when his adopted son becomes the villain’s latest victim. Driven by sheer vengeance, he vows to track down the psychotic serial killer and bring the reign of terror to an end in a climactic battle between good and evil.
It’s a Chuck Norris movie and, finally, in Hi-Def for the very first time! If this isn’t what Hi-Def was invented for then we really don’t know what is. We thought Chuck was actually in the room with us. What more do you want? This is a guy capable of slamming a revolving door and is so fast he can run around the world and punch himself in the back of the head. One of Chuck’s first real starring outings, ‘A Force Of One’ was the first Hollywood movie to bring a full contact karate bout to the screen and, if you look really closely, there’s a scene in which Chuck actually makes a Happy Meal cry (okay, we lied about that last bit).
“You want action and fighting, yes? Well, ‘A Force Of One’ has plenty of both. In fact, it's surprisingly violent.” – MovieGuy247.com.

“There's nothing like vintage Chuck Norris. The choppy bent-kneed kicks, the hokey fights, and the complete lack of grace. Pure gold. ‘A Force Of One’ is, however, one of Chuck's best films, with solid martial arts combat, in a full-contact fashion.” – ChopSockyCinema.com.

“Vintage 70s Chuck Norris action.” – BBCi Films.

“That current rarity, an unpretentious action movie.” – Time Out.

I watched AN EYE FOR AN EYE tonight and was reminded how much I enjoy these dumb action movies starring the future president of Texas. Played the whirred-up U.K. dvd to see it in widescreen. It ain't natural hearing Chuck Norris with a high voice. Now that last year's batch of Chuck blus from the Cannon Group / WB are no longer on the brick & mortar shelves perhaps the rest of his early films will come out? Bring those region b blues of THE OCTAGON and A FORCE OF ONE to the states and throw in SILENT RAGE, AN EYE FOR AN EYE and FORCED VENGEANCE. What are Columbia and MGM waiting for? Texas to secede from the Union?

EDIT:
Actually, the PAL speed-up on the U.K. DVD isn't distracting like on some DVDs, and it's a solid entertaining film in a cclean sharp transfer. I recommend the U.K. DVD.

I love Chuck Norris and I love ninjas, but unfortunately the two together don't guarantee a fun or entertaining film. I watched THE OCTAGON for the first time this weekend. It was boring mess of a film. There's a lot of talking and scheming between characters I could care less about and the action was just, meh.

Richard--W

Jason C, if I started with THE OCTAGON I'd never try another Chuck Norris film. It is not representative. Everybody knows it's sub-par. The title is the best thing about it. I'm sure you'll agree Norris made much better movies. James Fargo's stylish FORCED VENGEANCE (1982) for example. It has the most action and shows Norris at his best. Watch the opening title, taken from a fight scene in the middle of the film, and tell me if it didn't inspire a certain fight in Shanghai in a recent anti-Bond movie. The DVD is an excellent transfer. Norris also communicates fluently with his feet in Stever Carver's AN EYE FOR AN EYE. SILENT RAGE, Carver's LONE WOLF McQUADE, Ted Post's GOOD GUYS WEAR BLACK, Andrew Davis' CODE OF SILENCE are all well-produced, well-made films with straightforward stories, killer stunts and plenty of tough action. He got sufficient budgets, worked with talented directors and maintained a high standard throughout the 1980s.

I actually enjoy The Octagon quite a bit. It is heavy on talk to be sure, but it amuses me. Could be childhood nostalgia blinding me a bit as I vividly remember seeing it as a kid during the height of my ninja obsession but even as an adult I have fun with it.
