From Twitch (http://twitchfilm.com/news/2012/04/drive-director-nicolas-winding-refn-to-produce-maniac-cop-prequel.php?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+TwitchEverything+%28Twitch%3A +Everything%29):

"In a surprising but compelling pairing, Drive and Pusher director Nicolas Winding Refn has reportedly teamed up with American exploitation icon William Lustig to produce a prequel to Lustig's 1988 feature Maniac Cop.

Says Lustig in an interview with Daily Gridhouse (http://dailygrindhouse.com/thewire/dg-exclusive-nicolas-winding-refn-joins-lustig-cohen-for-new-maniac-cop-film/):

It's going to be more a prequel than anything else, I am really excited to come back to this world especially since Nick is going to be a part of it... [Nicolas Winding Refn] has been talking to us about it for a while now and I had an idea that would work so we're going to do it."

As an unashamed fan of all three of the original films, I'm kind of geeking out just a little bit right now. I still haven't seen Drive and I know I need to - I know it was quite popular with a lot of people whose taste in movies I trust. Hopefully this is in good hands - but who will play the lead? Without Robert Z'Dar, who is probably too old at this point, I dunno....

Interesting. I nominate Crispin Glover, for no real reason than he was in Toronto this weekend and I forgot to go.

I think Frodo should play the Maniac Cop.

He's too busy playing the non cop Maniac, remember?

They can make them all at the same time and re-make 10,000 Maniacs again but call it 10 Maniacs and he can be all 10 maniacs.

Think about it.

Are you confusing this with this again?

You're trippin. Natalie Merchant's jaw isn't even on the Z'dar r'dar.

Edit: dang, not quite fast enough.

I can almost hear Natalie singing:

"Barrel roll, teetering rock.
Cut off your thumb when we went for a walk..."
