I am sure we all remember Rob Black from his period of notoriety a few years back.....and the fact that he ended up in jail for a year and a day....

Anyhow, had completely forgotten about him...until I saw a BBC doc a few days ago by LOUIS THEROUX.

He originally went to report on a few members of the porn community about 5 years ago I think....he interviewed Black at the time...as well as some up and coming performers...

Anyhow, this 2012 doc sees him go back to catch up on the state of the US porn scene...and he interviews BLACK again....he STILL seems whacked out....but I was surprised to see that he now produces / directs lots of these PARODY XXX movies these days......was very surprised that anyone would give him work based on his reputation.....

I have the Taxi Driver parody he made as 'General Stone' (his new directing alias) - it's actually quite well done for what it is.

As far as his trial goes, I have issues there. I haven't seen the movies that landed him in all the trouble (Forced Entry and a few others - five in total, right?) as it doesn't sound like something that I would enjoy, in fact I think it sounds blatantly repulsive - BUT - it was made by consenting adults for consenting adults and whether documentary crews walked off the set and various moral marjority types got offended or not would, to me, seem irrelevant.

The fact that they prosecuted him in an unusually conservative part of PA instead of in California also seems odd - like they were setting him up, which they probably were.

It's pretty hard to defend the guy, but this case sets some interesting notes about the whole obscentiy thing, community standards, how and why people are prosecuted for it, etc..

I should get around to seeing The Porn King Vs. The President, it's probably an interesting watch.

I saw this and actually thought Louis Theroux was quite sincere in his approach. I seem to recall him adopting a somewhat . . . patronising(?) tone in the first documentary, which was more like 15 yeas ago!

15 YEARS AGO!!!...yeah..you could be right....remember watching it at the time....time flies huh???

As for Theroux's approach....I think he comes off as patronising in some regards....but that's just his style...having seen most of his docs, I would say he chooses projects that interest him so I think it is more his "innocence" that might come off as patronizing.....plus some people in his docs DESERVE to be patronized!!!

As for Rob Black...not seen his movies (for obvious reasons) but I agree that his trial / incarceration was a set up...he was a fall guy to get the heat off the rest of them at a time they MAY have been cracked down on because of this guy and a few others.and the industry needed a scapegoat.IF he didnt FORCE anybody into doing what ended up on film (unlike others who HAVE been accused of this) and it was all LEGAL (ie over the legal age limit) then not sure why he should be sent to jail...Besides, I am .Sure there are WORSE sleazebags in the industry than him...He just seemed misguided into thinking that what he was doing was "important".......He DOES seem a little out-of-his-head though..not at all the kind of person u might want to associate with!!!

Rob Black seems pretty harmless. He's a personality. A boisterous extrovert, but not anyone who seems particularly shady or scary to me.

I've seen a few of his movies (including FORCED ENTRY), and the two Theroux docs.

Thats what I mean...there are far bigger sleazebags out there working than him...and(as far as I know) he didnt force anyone to either appear in his movies OR to watch them....Which is whyhe seems more of a fall guy than someone who deserved it more than anyone else....

So Robin, was FORCED ENTRY a remake....and was it worth watching?..thoughts please...

It's an excellent doc, much better than either of the Theroux pieces imo. Seems pretty clear that Black suffers from some kind of mental issues as well, I think he admits as much in the doc.

I don't think Black is scary but various stories about his business practices over the years do seem to reinforce that he is shady. It's pretty hard to get blacklisted by the porn industry and he pretty much was even before the Feds came after him.

It's not a remake of the original FORCED ENTRY, it just shares the same title. I don't know if I'd really say that it was worth watching, but it wasn't bad at all if you like the rough stuff. The original from 1973 is far better and much more memorable, and the one from 1975 is also somewhat better.

Thanks for that Robin, I have seen the original vietnam-vet-on-the-rampage original...as well as the made for Tanya Roberts remake (LOL when I first heard about THAT!!!)...was HOPING he had made a true remake and updated it..disappointed now....Wish SOMEONE would make a decent one in this vein again..but looks unlikely!....

and yes, the THEROUX docs are not particularly indepth or tough , gritty docs (they were made for the BBC after all!!!)...Where can I see PORN KING VS THE PRESIDENT???

I don't think it's been given a DVD release anywhere, at least not that I know of. There are DVD-Rs making the rounds though.
