His latest film in production (yes, it's really in production) that's a surrealist biopicture on Jodorowsky that stars mostly himself and his family in varying stages of his life.

Currently he's asking for donations of $1 to help finish the film:

I donated $20. According to the wiki article after this film he'll go into production on a sequel to El Topo.

I thought he had started on that sequel already? Who knows. I love Jodo's stuff, but he's had nothing but trouble getting new projects off the ground these last years...

Rewatched his HOLY MOUNTAIN the other night.....

>>>Hmmmm>>>>wow>>>>huh?>>>>Jesus H Christ>>>WTF????>>>>My brain has melted>>>I need to lie down!

Watch it with the commentary on if you haven't yet. It clears up a lot of things, you'll gain a new respect for it.

^ Same. I watched Holy Mountain not long after El Top and just thought it was pretentious. The commentary really opened the movie up for me and it was a helluva of an experience to understand it.

07-22-2012, 03:52 AM
Nah...didnt think it pretentious or anything......just a totally off-the-wall one of a kind movie that could ONLY have been made at that time and place....and only by Jodorowsky!!

Will give it a watch with the commentary soon as you have both advised.....

Got an email recently about my donation being returned. From what I understand they only got 1% of what they needed to fund the film, so Jodo and co. got funding elsewhere and turns out that the funding they got from this 3rd party covered everything. So they returned the 1% back to the donators and you still get your name on the credits.

No idea when this will be released but it's actually finished, it's confirmed it's done. Whether or not this leads to Sons of El Topo is anyone's guess.

There's an interview with Brontis Jodorowsky here (http://blogs.miaminewtimes.com/cultist/2013/01/brontis_jodorowsky_on_his_fath.php) that goes into some detail.

Sounds like it is still in post.

Glad it's already shot, he's been having trouble with anything getting made for over the last ten years.

Nice to hear he got it done. I'm not real excited about the El Topo sequel idea, seems tired to go over old ground like that, especially since he's fully capable of writing good new material as his comic work shows. I always preferred Holy Mountain to El Topo anyway.

A sequel can always be similar but radically different from the first film. Like Godfather 2 or Aliens.

Yeah but we know that he's returning to El Topo because that would be the most commercially viable property he has, like when Joseph Heller wrote a sequel to Catch 22. I bet he's been offered the chance to do a sequel to El Topo for a long time but resisted it but now is so desperate to make a movie he's willing to take it on. For example, instead of Godfather 2, think of Godfather 3, or Argento's Mother of Tears.

Or Inferno or Warlock: The Armageddon.

I have faith in Jodorowsky so long as he retains creative control.

Jodorowksy interview here (http://www.examiner.com/article/legendary-indie-filmmaker-alejandro-jodorowsky-talks-his-films-django-and-dune) in which he talks about the new film as well as a few other things, like.... Dune.

"NH: What do you think of David Lynch’s version of Dune, which got mixed reviews and was panned many critics like Roger Ebert. He said, “This movie is a real mess, an incomprehensible, ugly, unstructured, pointless excursion into the murkier realms of one of the most confusing screenplays of all time.” What’s your opinion?

I also like this other Jodo quote in regards to Spielberg's commercialism: "If I could meet Spielberg I would kill him."

I just read on the wikipedia-page of Jodorowsky that he is from Tocopilla in chile. 2000 chileans from there reside in my Swedish Town. They all speak shitty Swedish, carry knives and deal cocaine. I didnt even know Jodorowsky was from Chile. How could I have missed this?

05-01-2013, 04:50 PM
They all speak shitty Swedish, ....

As opposed to regular Swedish?

As opposed to regular Swedish?

Exactly. Think of how mexicans speak English, and you get the Picture of how these people speak Swedish.

05-01-2013, 06:35 PM
Who cares how they speak Swedish or Mexican.

I just want to see a new Jodorowsky film.

A new Jodorowsky film?

Yes, a new Jodorowsky film.

A new Jodorowsky film.

That's right.

After all these years, a new Jodorowsky film.

in that article, I think they typed "stubble" when they meant "struggle".

Kind of a Buttle/Tuttle situation.

I can't wait to see this film.

That digital look is a little off-putting and it just doesn't look right with the CGI but the visuals are amazing. I'm looking forward to this.

I agree with Alex's points, but at the same time... HOLY SHIT. New Jodorowksy!

Are you guys refering to the cgi or the cinematography? The cgi looks a bit ropey but I think the visuals look pretty great. My tolerance for quirky movies set around carnies is low but hey, after a 23 year, almost Mallick-ian break it would be wrong not to check it out.

05-18-2013, 08:41 PM
Nope...nothing negative to say about his at ALL.........Really, nothing can dampen the enthusiasm I have for seeing something new by Jodorowsky......The man is almost beyond criticism!

The CGI. I agree the visuals otherwise look awesome.

Are you guys refering to the cgi or the cinematography?

A little bit of both for me. The CGI isn't bad but it's noticeable. I'm willing to bet it was shot on RED and all those bright colors just look a little off in digital. Minor qualm from me and the digital doesn't look nearly as bad as say Argento's Dracula.

Is there any info about future DVD/Blu releases yet? Looks like none of the sucky film festivals in Poland will show it this year. :(

Not exactly the kind of Jodo news I wanted to hear/see when clicking on a new post in this thread. :D

To be released in LA and NY in May:

So apparently the Box set (Holy Mountain/El topo/etc.) is out of print. Much to my chagrin. I have the dvds, but was going to upgrade. Not now, I guess. They should re-release it to coincide with the new film being released, and y'know since Kanye is all into it and stuff.

I think the boxset should be released by Arrow Video.

And then there's the sequel! So geeked!

Fantastic. The world can always use another Jodorowsky film. Now if only his version of Dune could be done...

I'm a terrible procrastinator. I finally watched it and it was good... I didn't think it was up there with Holy Mountain and El Topo or Santa Sangre. But I'd put it above Fando Y Lis (which is also good but it doesn't come together). It's hard to say what I didn't enjoy because I thought it was really well done and loved the use of color. Going digital worked out in this case where the colors really pop. I guess it felt rushed and a little wandering. Thinking about it now, I'm left wondering if this was supposed to Alejandro's story or his father's story. I really wish it focused on one or the other instead of both. But it was good but it didn't amaze me if that makes any sense. If you like Jodorowsky's films or surrealist films in general or have a thing for coming of age movies. I'd recommend it. It was nice seeing my name in the credits too.

I wonder if his sons are tired of doing nude scenes in their father's movies?
