Heard this on the radio an hour ago. Sad news, he had a particularly awful cancer. A true pioneer in rock with that organ.

A real drag. I've been listening to a lot of old Deep Purple of late, too. RIP.

Heard it on NPR on the way home from work. Didn't realize he'd done a bunch of classical stuff too, I only know him from Deep Purple. RIP.

He also played keyboards in Whitesnake for a long time - pre MTV days when they were a blues-based hard rock band. He left Purple several years ago but had been doing solo stuff. Lord and Ritchie Blackmore had some awesome solo duels when Purple played live.

A true loss to hard rock, he was an innovator on the keys.

One of his solo albums also had the most hideous cover art of all time.
