Hey guys, some of you may remember me from the old DVD Maniacs days as Mike B. Ian was kind enough to encourage me to post some links for my musical project - The Man From RavCon. This music is influenced by my love of instrumental rock, surf rock, spaghetti western - horror - and blaxploitation soundtracks, and prog. If you like those kind of things, you may enjoy it.

of special note:
* My latest release is The Traveler (http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/themanfromravcon3) which is reviewed in this December's issue of Vintage Guitar Magazine (http://www.vintageguitar.com/) (The one with Michael Anthony on the cover. How rad is that? :) ).
* For the month of October, my 2011 Horror soundtrack tribute, Night Of The Beast (http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/themanfromravcon2), is available for download for $6.66.
* A Trip To The Morgue (http://www.reverbnation.com/play_now/song_14701773?utm_campaign=opengraph&utm_content=song&utm_medium=link&utm_source=facebook), a special track I recorded just for Halloween 2012 is free for download through October.

Thanks for letting me share. :)

I listened to four albums on Spotify yesterday and liked them enough that I'll pick up a couple of CDs too (spotify is awesome for sampling stuff but I still need physical discs to satiate myself!). This is good stuff.

Thanks guys, I appreciate you giving it a listen. Glad you liked it! I think I actually get a penny or two from Spotify streams, so have at it. :)

Mike - what's the significance of the name?

It stems from my old band, The Ravelers. A buddy of mine came up with the term RavCon (Ravelers' Consortium) referring to all the folks in the inner circle of the band. He printed bumper stickers before anyone of us had even heard of it! When I created a myspace page for my solo stuff a few years back, I had no clue what to name it... Mike Brown was taken - multiple times. I pretty much came up with The Man From RavCon off the top of my head when the computer prompted me for a name.

Ha, that's kinda cool. Anyway, great guitar sound on the recordings. I like how it can go back and forth between SW and more weirdo horrorish stuff.

Thanks Ian. I've been focusing on guitar tone, since without vocals, it's the lead instrument on most of the stuff. Mostly Fender Jaguar and Jazzmaster.

Those Jags are sweet. I like the Jazzmaster as well, but i dig the idea of a guitar with that 22" scale length. I might pick up one of those Squiers just to get my Jag on.

You should Mark. It's a very comfortable design, and the tone is sweet. I prefer my Jag to the JM. It's got more bite.

Here's a video for The Charmer from the new CD, The Traveler. It's all Jag.

I like how it goes from green elephants to scary guys to pretty dancing girls back to scary guys except this time with snakes.

Good. It's strategic as hell.

My CD of The Traveller showed up in the mail last night....played it on the way into work this morning. Only got through the first couple of tracks, but great driving music!

Also, very impressed with the tone you got, and the overall sound of the CD. :-D

It's like watching my dad's old vacation movies on 8mm except with a much better soundtrack.
