There's a lot of buzz going around about this one right now, with a lot of people noting how disturbing it is for various reasons (few of which relate to the content being specifically graphic).

I didn't realize that the DVD had come out domestically in August.

It's also available on Amazon streaming and on Netflix.

"Based on horrifying crimes discovered in Snowtown, Australia in 1999, THE SNOWTOWN MURDERS is a stark journey into a brutal subculture of suspicion, addiction and violence. Hoping for much-needed stability and security in their lives, embattled mother Elizabeth (Louise Harris) and her three sons take up with John, the self-appointed moral compass of a vigilante neighborhood watch group. John's charismatic nature causes 16-year-old Jamie (Lucas Pittaway) to view the older man as a role model, and the two quickly strike up a bond. But when John introduces Jamie to his disturbing ideas of administering justice, the impressionable youth is confronted with a father figure who may be the most vicious predator he's encountered yet. Winner of the Special Jury Prize at Cannes' Critics Week, Justin Kurzel's directorial debut is an uncompromising look at the alarming circumstances that led to the notorious crimes."

Has anyone seen this year?

This came out over here in March or April, I think. I watched it then and was very impressed with it. It's not particularly graphic; I'd say the material is handled quite tastefully. However, it's very disturbing and gets under your skin. Definitely worth tracking down, imo.

There's also a UK dvd. Btw, Aaron G. has talked good about another Aussie film called THE BOYS. I found two short trailers on YouTube. Both trailers are extremely low-key, not something you'd see outta Hollywood. Have any of you got the UK dvd? I'm curious as to how much of the extras are carried over from the OZ DVD (http://www.urbancinefile.com.au/home/view.asp?a=8111&s=interviews).

I haven't seen THE BOYS, Jack; it's slipped under my radar.

THE BOYS is excellent, there is no actual physical violence in the film, it is more about the atmosphere and dialogue leading up to the crime. It has a terrific sense of impending violence and doom to it and the acting is very well done, just be prepared to adjust to the thick Australian accents. I saw it a long time ago on VHS so I don't know anything about the DVD releases.

High marks given for the Australian Blu-ray release, which according to this review (http://www.michaeldvd.com.au/Reviews/Reviews.asp?ID=9854) is region free.

Just watched this on the Canadian Netflix and it's excellent. Very dark stuff.
