I started a new feature at my blog titled Five Films, where I have guest writers contribute a list of movies they feel are underrated and would love more people to see.

First up is a set of picks from Dante Tomaselli, writer/director of SATAN'S PLAYGROUND, the new TORTURE CHAMBER and the upcoming ALICE SWEET ALICE update.

New installments once every week or two. Lots of great contributors lined up!

This sounds like something I'll be checking regularly. Nice to see some love for THE SENTINEL there - that's one that never seems to get any respect, as well as HOUSE WITH LAUGHING WINDOWS.

Yeah, The Sentinal is really underrated which I don't understand as it's pretty unique, has a good cast, is well made and is actually pretty creepy.

Cool feature Bruce. Dante's a good guy, I look forward to his next movie. Never heard of Meshes Of The Afternoon, sounds interesting.

Glad you guys dig it! I always think it's interesting to give some of these guys a chance to talk about someone else's movies for a change.

Ian, I have the entire MESHES OF THE AFTERNOON short embedded in the post. You can also get it on the Maya Deren shorts DVD, which is linked to if you click the MESHES title in the post.

Yeah, I saw that. Will be checking it out after work and if my boat is suitably floated, will look into that DVD.

I should probably point out that I don't have the Maya Deren DVD myself, and can't vouch for its quality. Anyone else have it? Haven't watched any of her stuff since the VHS days. My local punk record shop had a compilation tape for rent -- pretty trippy stuff!

By every week or two, I apparently meant every six months...

A new Five Films line-up, only at Cinema Arcana! This time out, DEADBEAT AT DAWN (1988) and THE MANSON FAMILY (2003) director Jim VanBebber picks a quintet of underrated favorites he feels warrant more attention. Some nice obscurities represented that you'll hopefully seek out!

Interesting that two of those picks are future Grindhouse Releasing titles. I would have thought Billy Jack would be on that list.

Pretty much every one of Grindhouse's upcoming releases would qualify for a list of mine, haha.

A new Five Films column, only at Cinema Arcana! This installment takes a stroll down Memory Lane with DARKNESS (1993) director Leif Jonker, who's not only celebrating his birthday, but also celebrating the film's 20th Anniversary! Some cool choices as Leif picks a quintet of underrated favorites he thinks more people should know about -- check 'em out!
