Just curious what folks have on the calendar in other parts of the country.

This Saturday we have X playing. They're showing a new docu about them prior to playing through 2 live sets, one of which is "Los Angeles" in its entirety.

At the end of February I'm also stoked to see that the reunited Man...or Astroman? are coming back through.

And then, in June, the mighty Fleshtones will be finally hitting the West Coast again.

X is weird.

Things have calmed down here thankfully as far as shows go. October through December was ridiculous but fun.

Cobra Skulls in Feb. and I'm hopefully gonna go to the Toxic Holocaust show once I get back from Vegas in two weeks.

I wanted to see Leftover Crack on Sunday but kinda forgot about it once the blizzard moved in.

X was really friggin' great when i saw them here in June. Hey, Ian, can I interview Billy Zoom since Ron Reyes doesn't answer emails once he says, "Sure, man, sounds great!"?

I'm going to see Motorhead for the first time when they play here in February with Clutch and Valiant Thorr. Also thinking of going to check out The Headstones reunion show in February.

Ian Jane
12-29-2010, 01:13 PM
You can interview pretty much anyone you want and a Zoom interview would be awesome.

The Headstones were awesome live when I saw them in college. You know, that show you didn't go to? It was good. Hugh Dillon kicked a guy in the head and was fucked out of his gourd but they were crazy good.

I saw Kool Keith once. It was the WORST show I've ever been to. Luckily the tickets were free (face value $26). DJ Qbert was opening, but everyone was late. Luckily, Akrobatik (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akrobatik) was in the crowd, and they got him to perform for a bit. Qbert came on, and one of his turntables was broken. Fuckin' fine, whatever. Then Kool Keith came on (this whole show is super late, by the way) and claimed that his dj was stuck on a cruise ship. He played his cd on a discman and rapped over that. We left after two or three minutes. Fuckin' sucked.

Todd Jordan
01-09-2011, 03:26 PM
oh I dig them. Good stoner stuff. Not that I do that, am doing it now. No way.

This was supposed to be in response to Chad note on The Sword. I fucked it up.

Yes, Paul, I dig The Sword. in fact, I love it.

Paul Casey
01-09-2011, 08:07 PM
Todd, you ever check out Neurosis?

Ian Jane
01-10-2011, 01:00 AM
Neurosis are rad.

I don't know if this counts as a concert or not but yesterday I got to watch Mixmaster Mike tear it up at CES for a half an hour or so. I'm not a big DJ guy but that dude is pretty intense and really good at what he does. The other exhibitors weren't happy with the volume levels getting as high as they did (it's kinda hard to have meetings in your booth when Mike is doing his thing and booth girls are hooting and hollaring at everyone) but whatever. That dude is pretty impressive.

I'm getting pre-sales for MÖTÖRHEAD tomorrow. I'm a MÖTORHEAD live virgin, so I hope they still rock it. The venue is a piece-of-shit cow-shed, but I figure it'll be my last chance to see Lemmy scream.

ZZ Top are playing the same venue, but I'm hoping they do a smaller club show. I live in hope...

chad
01-11-2011, 10:07 AM
I've seen ZZ Top and Motorhead, they both put on a fucking great show, be terrific if they toured together

Saw a few NYC bands and a Prov, RI band tonight. Good shows.

VELLUM
THROAT
COWARDS
WORK/DEATH

Not as abrasive as I would've hoped, but fun nonetheless. Plus, the girl that is in Throat is totally cute. She also has a solo project, Pharmakon.

You would've been impressed to see Mixmaster Mike when the Beasties played Toronto....he opened the set by mixing double copies of Tom Sawyer by Rush. You would've gone AWOL.

Danko Jones in NYC, 2/24.

It's a school night, but it's also a 7pm start.

This must happen.

Alison Jane
02-25-2011, 10:09 AM
Great show. Dude looks like a cross between The Rock, the dude from The Fine Young Cannibals and my friend Rob from Canada.

Apparently that's a good mix.

Ian Jane
02-25-2011, 10:18 AM
Danko brought the rock and handed it out in spades.

The opening act sounded so much like Clutch I did a double take when they started playing. It was weird because they looked like Clutch too. But they weren't.

Mark Tolch
02-25-2011, 10:43 AM
You know who is seeing Clutch? Me! Tonight, opening for Motorhead with Valient Thorr!

Ian Jane
02-25-2011, 10:56 AM
You are very likely to have no ass tomorrow morning, because it will probably be rocked right off tonight.

Alison Jane
02-25-2011, 10:58 AM
Is it better to lose your ass or your face?

Ian Jane
02-25-2011, 11:08 AM
It depends. We didn't get our faces rocked off, we got them ripped off. I think that's what that guy who opened said. 'Danko Jones is coming up next to rip your fucking faces off' or something dumb like that.

Alison Jane
02-25-2011, 11:14 AM
Either one sounds painful and leaves you minus one body part.

Paul Casey
02-25-2011, 11:16 AM

Did he do Mountain and start slapping himself? Fucking awesome.

Ian Jane

He did, he closed with it, but he didn't draw blood this time.

Pictures later today.

Nolando
02-25-2011, 12:19 PM
That song/ending fucking rocks. Danko rocks - especially for a Canuckian.

Ian Jane
02-25-2011, 12:21 PM
Every once in a while we churn out a good one.

Nolando
02-25-2011, 12:26 PM
Heh - I suppose you all were due.

I'd like to see Danko become Justin Beiber's sexual musical mentor. Then Beiber just does songs about fucking. That would completely rule.

Ian Jane
02-25-2011, 12:29 PM
He did introduce Lovercall last night as a song about going down on a girl for hours at a time every day of the month, with an emphasis on EVERY DAY of the month. haha.

Mark Tolch
02-25-2011, 03:23 PM
I saw Danko Jones for about 5 minutes at a place called The Mansion House in St. Catharines that has a multi-level parking garage next to it. Danko was playing outside, and people were watching him from the parking garage and he was screaming at them, calling them all kinds of nasty names for not buying a ticket, and then refusing to play until the "schemers" stopped watching. At that point the police showed up because there was a complaint about all of the profanity that he was using, and then there was more profanity, and that was that for that show.

I'm impressed that he gets a turnout in NYC. Danko's pretty cool.

Nolando
02-25-2011, 03:37 PM
Hey, Ian, speaking of upcoming shows, this is where you should go tonight:

Los Straightjackets - Playing a show in Brooklyn, NY at 8:00 PM today at The Bell House http://artistdata.com/a/3km8

Ian Jane
02-25-2011, 03:39 PM
If I weren't brokity-ass-broke, I'd do that. But I am.

Alison Jane
02-25-2011, 03:52 PM
And you have plans with Crazy Guy. :tsk:

Ian Jane
02-25-2011, 04:03 PM
Crazy Guy will not be partaking in the after work festivities. He was not invited.

Alison Jane
02-25-2011, 04:19 PM
But the stories, man... the stories!!!!

Mark Tolch
02-26-2011, 03:22 PM
I had my face and ass both ripped off and rocked off. It was so fucking LOUD..and Lemmy says 2 songs in "does it need to be louder?" And they turned it UP. I was in front of the stage for Overkill, and only knew it was that because of the drums.

There was also mad drama and crazy drunkenness, and a bunch of people smoking a LOT of dope. And the Hells Angels have some very snaZzy new spring coats.

Ian Jane
02-26-2011, 04:23 PM
Details.

Mark Tolch
02-26-2011, 05:51 PM

The Meatmen
Sat., Apr. 2
@plan b, pdx

Ian Jane
03-23-2011, 02:36 PM
Dayglos are playing PDX 5/22 too. Go see'em and rip up the floor when they play Proud To Be A Canadian.

Ian Jane
03-23-2011, 03:15 PM
Oh, and OFF! are hitting PDX 4/23, playing East End.

Nolando
04-07-2011, 02:47 PM
Planning on seeing OFF!, if I can get into that stupid tiny venue.

Dayglos are playing w/ Agent Orange on that date, at Plan B. We are very much trying to get on that bill.

Ian Jane
04-07-2011, 04:03 PM
Buy your Off! tickets in advance, they sold out here.

That'd be awesome if you got on that Dayglos bill.

Nolando
04-07-2011, 06:19 PM
The place they're playing doesn't sell advance tix so, lovely...

Going to see Channel 3 on Friday and then The Meatmen on Saturday - woot!

Paul Casey
04-22-2011, 12:21 PM
Controlled Bleeding is coming to town tomorrow. They're playing with some local acts.

Dayglo Abortions with Verbal Abuse, June 9th in Brooklyn.

Just ordered tickets.

June 9th is when Black Leather Jesus is playing here.

Ian Jane
05-04-2011, 02:23 PM
Then it will be a good day for the east coast.

Paul Casey
05-05-2011, 12:34 PM
I'll drink a beer in your honor, now that you're an East Coast native. Not in Todd's honor, though, 'cause he's a twisted canbread.

Ian Jane
05-05-2011, 12:55 PM
He also doesn't have a show to go to that night. I bet zero bands are playing in Cucumberland on June 9th.

Ian Jane
05-14-2011, 03:10 PM
K-Rod/Noland - did either of you make the PNW Off! shows? Details!

NYC.... Guitar Wolf. Splat! (http://www.rockshockpop.com/forums/content.php?1475-Guitar-Wolf-Live-At-The-Knitting-Factory-Brookly-NY-5-13-2011)

Swingin' Utters just announced an NYC show for 6-13.

Paul Casey
06-03-2011, 01:24 PM
KRod's post reminded me that I'm going to see The Melvins tomorrow night. I prefer the setlist for tonight's show (Lysol + Houdini), but the guy buying them wanted to go tomorrow (some album + Stoner Witch).

Nolando
06-03-2011, 03:56 PM
I did not - the place they played was over-sold and packed for the whole 5-band lineup.

Roderick
06-03-2011, 04:42 PM
I went. Great show. Keith Morris bumped into me while he was squeezing through the crowd to go roadie for himself. Then Mark Arm posted up next to me. The place was lousy with PNW rock stars.

Roderick
06-08-2011, 01:14 PM
The Damned are playing Seattle this Oct and performing The Black Album and Damned Damned Damned in their entirety. BOING!

They are also playing NYC so Ian is lame if he does not go.

Ian Jane
06-08-2011, 01:29 PM
Holy shit!

And The Dayglos got deported. Awesome.

Paul Casey
06-08-2011, 04:03 PM
And The Dayglos got deported. Awesome.

HA!
Well, the Black Leather Jesus show is still on if you wanna drive out here. Supposed to be 100 degrees out, though.

Ian Jane
06-08-2011, 04:10 PM
I have to work the next morning, or I'd do it for kicks.

Stupid Dayglos. At least I can get a refund on my tickets. I could go see Verbal Abuse without them, but I don't care enough.

Ian Jane
06-09-2011, 10:59 AM
And to continue whining...

The PI2011 festival for 6/19 was supposed to feature Star Fucking Hipsters and Morning Glory - both are now apparantly off the bill for whatever reason.

The plus side is that STZA is doing a solo acoustic set of Choking Victim and Leftover Crack songs and Zounds have apparantly been added, which would be interesting.

Paul Casey
06-09-2011, 01:29 PM
STZA is my least favorite member of Wu Tang.

Roderick
06-09-2011, 01:48 PM
Scored my Damned tix. Huzzah!

Ian Jane
06-09-2011, 01:57 PM
What are they charging for the Seattle show? It's $50 a ticket here.

Roderick
06-09-2011, 01:59 PM
$20 plus rape fees to bring them to $35.

Ian Jane
06-09-2011, 02:03 PM
Still a lot less, even with rape fees.

Roderick
06-09-2011, 02:58 PM
I guess I can feel good about avoiding the "you live in NYC" fee.

Ian Jane
06-09-2011, 03:13 PM
Haha, I think that's what it is, yep. I'm sooo tempted by this show but I don't know that dropping $100 on 2 tickets right now is in my best interest. At the same time, I could see it selling out quickly even though they're playing a larger sized venue here and I do want to go.

Decisions, decisions.

Roderick
06-09-2011, 03:26 PM
Do it. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Ian Jane
06-09-2011, 03:27 PM
Gotta pay some bills first, but once that's done...

DEVO at the county fair this Saturday and Big Business with Torche on Sunday. First shows I'll have been to in about a year.

DEVO was fucking great. They played he Denver County Fair, which at first sounds lame but the fair was great too. I saw some prize roosters and hens, checked out a mystery freak in a tent that looked like a Fiji Mermaid made out of lasagna, rode a Gravitron all by myself (Gravitrons ain't the same though when the guy running it doesn't play AC/DC. It was a fat emo kid with an iPad and he had his earbuds in. Hmph).

Then, while the wife and I ate dinner at the pizza stand I go to get a second slice and as I walk back to the table who do I see sneaking between the condiment tables? Mark Mothersbaugh! He's peeping around and as I approach him he looks away but puts his hand out for shaking. So I grab it and shake it. "How's it going, sir?" I ask. He replies "Good. Have you seen my in-laws?" I tell him that I have not and he walks away. Later I see him in line grabbing a slice and a beer which he sat and ate with his family. That pizza and beer gave him powerful energy as he and the band played strong and well. There was a 3-year-old kid on the floor going nuts, pogoing and spinning. He was wearing a tuxedo t-shirt and these other two boys came by and were compelled to do karate moves with him.

Then last night I checked out Big Biz with a cool trio called Helms Alee from Washington. Both bands tore shit apart, although I wish that Jared was taking better care of himself. He's put on a lot of weight. Didn't stick around for Torche 'cuz it was a school night.

Toyboy
08-01-2011, 11:41 AM
Oh, yeah...there was also an owl and a falcon right out in the open. Thing is, I saw a hawk eating a baby rabbit in our parking lot at work Friday night so big fucking deal. Show me a bird I haven't seen, assholes.

Ian Jane

At the Devo show or the Big Business show?

Either way, sounds rad. You should have karate kicked that kid too.

Toyboy
08-01-2011, 12:12 PM
I know. I thought I should go dance with the kid but I didn't want to freak out his mom.

The birds of prey were at the fair. Right next to the guinea pig display. I wonder how that all turned out.

Ian Jane
08-01-2011, 12:21 PM
Probably for the best.

Any county fair I've ever been to has been lame. No Devo, no karate kids, just farm animals and dumb people. One time I got some good corn on the cob though, so that was pretty rad.

Paul Casey

08-01-2011, 01:35 PM
The guy at the pizza place was having a nervous breakdown. There were no pizza slices on display and nobody working said shit about what was what, so it was just a line of customers not quite sure what to do. The pizza man finally pulled a pepperoni pie out of the oven and asked if anyone was waiting for a slice. I assumed he was asking people who may have already paid so I kept mum, as did the guy in front of me. Pizza man, looking irritated, then goes over to the soda fountain to take drink orders and the guy in front of me asks for a slice of pepperoni. Pizza man loses it. "That's what I just asked! Did you want a slice of pepperoni!?! I just asked that!" When I got up there the dude's chin was quivering.

I was worried that he was going to yell at Mothersbaugh.

That guy's clearly not cut out to be a pizza man. Maybe he should go back to pretzels and work on his skills.

Maybe the DEVO energy domes were giving off bad vibes in the pizza area.

Paul Casey

Maybe the DEVO energy domes were giving off bad vibes in the pizza area.

Hm, could be. Energy can't be created nor destroyed, so the energy domes must steal surrounding energy to feed the DEVOs.

We're gonna go see Cobra Skulls play at Webster Hall in Sept.

I missed a free Cro-Mags show with an open bar last week cause my dad was in town visiting. In hindsight, I should have brought him.

11/11? Too soon.

OT, since it's a past show, but I caught Steve Earle in Kingston, Ontario last night. Even Steve seemed kinda bored with the new material, so a slightly rotosonic first set, with that and the hoariest of chestnuts trotted out. Ended with Alison Moorer banging out an impressive A Change is Gonna Come; she's no Sam Cooke, but cool. Second set was more about rocking with the Dukes -- he's at his best playing with a band these days. Either that, or goofing a bigass solo guitar intro. He tried to Pete Seeger a singlalong on Christmastime in Washington, but nobody knew the chorus and we're Canadians so we weren't really feeling it anyhow, and it was just dead air embarassment. Sorry, Steve.

Couple of encores, including a pretty great It Takes a Lot to Laugh, It Takes a Train to Cry. Fed feedback into a looping pedal, cranked it, and walked off for the night. Dead Flowers on the PA after.

Yup! That's the plan, anyways. Got tix back over the summer with my credit card, paying it off currently. Trying to tie up loose ends on plane tix and hotel reservations too. Lindsay Hutton is even flying over from Scotland for it! Kogar/Nimereht/Jim will be there too. Should be a grand time. I went to a release party for Mr. Rhythm's book a couple years ago here in Chicago thrown by Norton/Kicks Books and that was a blast. I can only dream of how crazy this one's gonna be! Maybe I'll get to dance with Miriam again... ;)

The Mentors are playing in Spokane on Dec. 27. To the best of my knowledge this is the band's first visit to our fair city. My friends and I used to joke that they always seemed to schedule dates in Seattle around Christmas and that Eldon must be travelling home for the holidays to visit his mom.

Has anyone seen the band lately? Were this, oh, say, 1986 or so, I would be falling over myself to make sure I didn't miss them. Nowadays...not so much. With El Duce long gone, I'm not even sure who's in the band any more.

Ian Jane
12-06-2011, 02:53 PM

Going to see P-Funk next month for my birthday, also won tickets to an all-day classic Hip-Hop Festival yesterday morning on the radio so I've got that in June

How was it?

They were a lot better than when I saw them in Brooklyn a few years back. Their current drummer really helps tighten everything up (or actually makes them sound tougher). Barrence Whitfield & The Savages were great too.

Alice Cooper is going to be playing in Milwaukee in October, with tix that are way cheaper than they are in Peoria. Is it worth is for $30-70? I've seen the band he's got now in videos, not terribly impressed though. Should I go for it once before he calls it quits?

He's touring with Hollywood Vampires as well. Haven't seen him with them, but he still puts on a good show. I think I spent 80 at Halloween and wasn't disappointed.

That's all that they'll let me be.

Almost a year, but you finally replied. Good job! :D

Re: Hollywood Vampires, I really am not interested in seeing them -- unless he drags Dennis, Neal or Michael along.

And thanks for the AC info. I guess I'd be going only for him anyways, so as long as the band plays the stuff well enough, I should be happy.

Yeah, they stumbled a few times, and I hated the covers....which he expanded into that Hollywood Vampires thing...and I agree with you on that...but he largely played the original group material with a few songs from later, and very few new songs.

Actually, here....

Read all about it. It's certainly better than my memory.

Oh yeah! I remember that review! That medley of the Hollywood Vampires classic rock junk sounds atrocious. I know Alice really is a pop act and he can do whatever he wants, but c'mon -- he can do better than that.

Then again, I see his posts for the radio show... Maybe he can't.

Haha, yeah. The setlist at the bottom was what I went to the review for, but then I started reading it....and those tombstones. Oh, boy.

Seems weird to go to a rock'n'roll show with seats.

I'm old and crabby. I love seats.

I'm learning not to discuss my preference for old Alive VS modern Alice in a FB group. Seems the "kids" think the old band were poor musicians and put on lame shows. Oy vey...

Well, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, even when they're horribly, horribly incorrect.

Thank you! I can sort of understand the fans who are all about Alice himself and likely dig metal, but to think the original band wasn't special?? Oy vey...
