What comes immediately to mind, in terms of my favourite Blu-ray releases of 2012:
Heaven's Gate
Repo Man
The Big Gundown
China Girl
King of New York
Rolling Thunder
Plein Soleil
Accattone
The Gospel According to Matthew
Two-Lane Blacktop
The Lost Weekend
Double Indemnity
Odd Man Out
The Conformist
Universal Classic Monsters Collection

I haven't caught up with a lot of US releases yet, and will have to mull over my list of favourite DVD releases of 2012 - PARK ROW would definitely be in there somewhere, however.

Add FORT APACHE to that list too. I forgot that was released this year.

THE OUTSIDE MAN (MGM MOD)
INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS BD
NEST OF VIPERS/TAILS YOU LOSE

Just got the PURPLE NOON BD but I'm fairly certain it'll deserve a spot.

Most of my picks for the best blu-rays of the year are upgrades of older films I already had on DVD. I still connect with new films and see a lot of them, but I don't buy them on home video, for some reason.

A blu-ray should by definition be a reference-quality transfer.

The 39 Steps -- Criterion
Ashanti!
The Big Gundown -- region B
The Big Heat
Black Sabbath
Creature From the Black Lagoon 3D > Universal Monsters
David Lean Directs Noel Coward -- Criterion box
Dial M For Murder 3-D
The Dust Bowl
Female Vampire
Fort Apache
Heaven's Gate -- Criterion
Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956)
Lisa and the Devil
Man On a Swing
The Opening of Misty Beethoven
Orson Welles' Macbeth
Prometheus 3-D
Rosemary's Baby -- Criterion
Strangers On a Train
Twilight's Last Gleaming
Universal Monsters
Zorro -- with Alain Delon

I'd probably include Jaws but I haven't watched it yet. I know I'm forgetting stuff.

I want to include House of Dark Shadows, Night of Dark Shadows and Twins of Evil -- blu-rays I've been anticipating for a long time -- but the transfers are a crushing disappointment. Both Dan Curtis films were cut, with Night missing nearly a third of its running time, and the Hammer film badly mistimed. Likewise You Only Live Twice, On Her Majesty's Secret Service and Diamonds Are Forever are careless, botched transfers. I also thought Universal Monsters could have been better but the release is so special I had to include it. The Dark Knight Rises blu-ray is excellent but the film bums me out so bad I need to watch a sitcom afterwards to cheer myself up.

On DVD, I was especially happy with:

Countess Perverse
Foreign Intrigue (paired with The Ugly American)
The Hanging Tree
The Skin Game
