Hopefully they resolve this, otherwise it sounds like he's out.

Lombardo issued this statement re: his status in the band:

“Status Update By Dave Lombardo Statement From Dave Lombardo Regarding Slayer Australian Tour 2013

I want to personally apologize to all of our fans in Australia who have bought tickets for the tour expecting to see me in my usual place on the drums.

So that you all know the truth, as of the end of the business day on February 14th, I was notified that I would not be drumming for the tour in Australia. I’m saddened, and to be honest I am shocked by the situation.

Last year, I discovered 90% of Slayer’s tour income was being deducted as expenses including the professional fees paid to management, costing the band millions of dollars and leaving 10% or less to split amongst the four of us. In my opinion, this is not the way a band’s business should operate. I tried rectifying it by letting my band mates know, and Tom and I hired auditors to figure out what happened, but I was denied access to detailed information and the necessary back up documents.

I spent the Christmas and New Year holidays realizing I had toured all over the world in 2012, but yet, had not been paid (except a small advance) or provided a proper accounting for a full year’s sweat and blood. On top of this, I was told that I would not be paid until I signed a long form contract which gave me no written assurance of how much or on what basis management would deduct commissions, nor did it provide me access to the financial budgets or records for review. It also forbade me to do interviews or make statements having to do with the band, in effect a gagging order.

Last Monday, I sat down with Kerry and Tom to rehearse for Australia and to propose a new business model that I felt was the best way forward for Slayer to confidently protect itself so we could do what we do best . . . play for the fans. Kerry made it clear he wasn’t interested in making changes and said if I wanted to argue the point, he would find another drummer. On Thursday, I arrived at rehearsals at 1 pm as scheduled, but Kerry did not show. Rather, at 6:24 pm I received an email from the lawyers saying I was being replaced for the Australian dates.

I remain hopeful that we can resolve our issues. But once again, I sincerely apologize to all of our fans in Australia who spent their money expecting to see the 3 of us original Slayer members. I look forward to seeing you in the future.

Sincerely, Dave Lombardo”

That's pretty huge. Lombardo is an integral component of that band, but if Sabbath can do it....

Well he was already out of the band once before, back in the late 90s/early 00s (not 100% on the dates) and they carried on. The guy who replaced him then was considered by some to be technically better but the sound was lacking to my ears. So, yeah, they better get him back.

Sometimes a drummer can be better but not fit the music...I have always preferred Clive Burr's drumming in Maiden, even if Nico is "better".

Interesting article (http://www.angrymetalguy.com/what-means-expendable-the-strange-case-of-jon-dette/) about this, including Lombardo's replacement (seemingly a professional sub drummer, haha).

The stuff without Lombardo was still pretty good, but the stuff with Lombardo was better. At least not-Lombardo has some decent credentials.

Yeah, a lot of negativity coming from the metal crowd...My take on it was, he was canned before, but came back (during Reign in Blood era), then left or got canned again after Seasons...people got over it. They will get over it this time too...

I really have not liked Slayer since South of Heaven. So I'm not really bothered by this...two sides to every story though. Kind of blows when business takes over band...

Tom has my take. After "Seasons" it's all downhill.

And very few drummers are better than Lombardo. His drum break on "Angel Of Death" is legendary for a damn good reason. At his peak the man was a STUNNING double bass player - lightning fast with laser precision. I saw him live circa "South Of Heaven" and my jaw was on the floor.

With Lombardo and Hanneman outta the picture SLAYER are even more irrelevant.

Lousy when money is more important than the music or band.

The drumming on Undisputed Attitude by John Dette is pretty fucking great.

This will be shameful to some but my favorite Slayer album has become God Hates Us All which has Bostaff on it. It's a pretty simple-minded record, even by Slayer standards, but it's just so fucking heavy. Love it.

Yeah, GHUA is fucking awesome and I agree with you, Dette does just fine on Attitude. This is certainly discouraging news but I'm not ready to write Slayer off just yet.

Kerry King and Scott Ian need to just start their own band...then kick each other out only to ask each other to tour again in 3 years 'cuz nobody else will put up with their shit.

I'm actually surprised that more Metal fans don't call Kerry out on his shit, the mans ego is the size of 30 pompous assholes.

They can get Dave Mustaine and Zakk Wylde in there and call themselves DOÜCHE CRÜE.

That song isn't very good.

No, it sure isn't. They've been treading water for a long time should have hung it up after Jeff died. At this point, the shitty albums far outweigh the good ones on the scale, in my opinion.

Kerry King = condescending piece of shit. Slayer = shoulda stopped years ago. A less-than-stellar album every so often is understandable, tying out new stuff, but four or five in a row? Caca

I do think Tom's beast is pretty awesome thought.

Cover art is okay but Repentless? Heard that was the title a while back and seriously thought it was a goof.

Slayer's just making up words that sound evil now.

Todd Jordan

Or is evil making up songs to sound like Slayer? That's some deep shit right there.

Yeah, this is album is okay despite the stupid title. It's not going to outdo their classics but I agree that it is better than World Painted Blood.

Tom is starting to look like Alan Moore.

Todd Jordan

his vocals sound like they are pitched up. He sounds like Sam Kinison. Drums are boring. Ain't a fan of that tune.

Musically speaking I think the title track to Repentless is pretty awesome but man those lyrics are cringe worthy. Whenever I hear the song I keep expecting Tom to throw in a "Don't you fuckin judge me!" or something like that. None of the other songs I've heard from the album have really grabbed me to be honest. At least it sounds better from a production standpoint than World Painted Blood. They fucked up royally on that one just like High on Fire did with Snakes for the Divine, hiring a producer who should be legally prohibited from being anywhere near a band that is even remotely heavy. Its a shame too because that had some good songs that were totally neutered by the anorexic production.

They should have quit after Hanneman died. It's like watching the last few seasons of HAPPY DAYS when the only ones left were Potsie and Fonzie.
