Trailer just popped up (http://cms.springboard.gorillanation.com/previews/81/video/747683/0/0/1) for this new 'hopping vampire' movie produced by Takashi Shimizu and directed by Juno Mak.

"Contemporary, action/special effects laden homage to the classic Chinese vampire movies of the 1980s. Co-produced by J-Horror icon Takashi Shimizu, and reuniting some of the original cast members of the classic Mr. Vampire series, RIGOR MORTIS is set in a creepy and moody Hong Kong public housing tower whose occupants we soon discover, run the gamut from the living to the dead, to the undead, along with ghosts, vampires and zombies. Reuniting some of the original cast members of the classic Mr. Vampire series, RIGOR MORTIS stars action movie veteran Chin Siu-ho (Siu-ho) as a former vampire hunting actor who now finds himself reaching the end of the line as a washed-up star who is also separated from his wife and alienated from his son. Down on his luck and with barely a dollar to his name, he checks into room 2442 in the housing estate which is allegedly a haunted flat. His aim is to end his misery by doing himself in, but instead Siu-ho is interrupted by some of the other "occupants"..."

Not surprisingly it looks heavy on CGI but there's some cool, creepy imagery here.

It does! And if you don't want to wait for the US release, the HK release has Eng. subs and it comes out next week (http://www.dddhouse.com/v3/product_details.php?ProductID=14042).

Bought the HK release a month or so back. This is hands down my favorite film of the year so far. It works beautifully both as a (granted, very somber) tribute to HK horror cinema and as a creepy, imaginative film.

Curious if anyone else caught up with this? I watched it while on vacation last week and was pretty impressed. The CGI is really heavy, overdone in spots, but the visuals are admittedly really slick. Great use of color in a few spots, some interesting and well written characters played effectively by the cast. Some cool visuals, a few legitimately eerie spots - I dug this. I'd actually like to see Juno Mak make a sequel or follow it up with something similar.
