This isn't a what are you listening to thread, we'll have one of those later

this is what is currently rocking your ass off your body thread

I've got a bootleg of a 25 minute set the Bassholes did with Msr. Jeffrey Evans for VPRO Dutch radio in 2005, I love it because they burn through some songs off their then current S/T album including a rocked-up version of "Daughter" before bringing out Don's old Gibson Bros. sparring partner/Memphis Garage guru Jeffrey Evans to revamp some old Gibsons songs

here's them doing Broke Down Engine

I got a four song Star Fucking Hipsters bootleg of a radio performance that's getting a lot of play and a lot of singalong time in the car. It makes me wanna yell and break things and throw molotav cocktails at cops.

I've been testing a cd for my Dec 15th cd club entry. Chock full of hardcore, grind, powerviolence, power electronics, and noise! I even shamelessly put one of my own tracks on there. Har har.

I've been listening to late 80s shit like Voivod, Slayer, but mostly DANZIG.

Hy-Test, this Aussie rock n roll band Ian sent me a promo for. I fucking love it

The latest Killing Joke CD, Absolute Dissent is quite good. One of their better albums, imho.

Fantomas.

Just realized that Jim Carroll's last novel came out a couple of months ago (some fan I am), and decided to order that. Then i decided that it made sense to rock A World Without Gravity : The Best of the Jim Carroll Band, and I've been rocking it for 24 hours now. Couple of lousy songs on there, but for the most part, it's awesomeness at it's finest.

Fantomas.

Y'know, I don't mind the Director's Cut album, but most Fantomas stuff does nothing for me. I know lots of people go cookoo for cocoa puffs over Mike Patton but it's all lost on me

I'd've thrown a nap in there.

I like him with Faith No More, but other than that, dude's a winston. Guy had to start his own label just to get his shitty albums released.

I think you summed up how I feel, Pauly, he just seems like he's trying to hard to be "different". I feel about him the same way I feel about John Zorn, the shit's just weird for the sake of being weird

Right, and now that he puts out his own stuff, he has no governor. Any piece of shit he makes can get released and some Patton fan will cum over it.

Zorn, I'm less familiar with. I've liked all the Painkiller I've heard, and have only heard a few Naked City tracks. His label, though, Tzadik released two Merzbow cds. I've only heard 1930, so I can't comment on the quality of Sphere. 1930 is a really solid album. Looking at the rest of their catalog, it seems to be quite an interesting label.
I can agree with you on the free jazz bit to some extent. I guess it all depends on how free they're playing it.

I've been listening to 80s metal the last couple of days. Some of that is real shit but there are some cherries for sure.

I'm on a big Danko Jones kick today. My ass is more or less on the floor, having been completely rocked off about 5 minutes ago.

Nolando
01-31-2011, 12:52 PM
Danko covers a multitude of Canadian musical sins.

Todd Jordan
01-31-2011, 12:53 PM
Danko Jones...definitely ass-kicking. Are you ok?

Ian Jane

I am, but I'm not sure for how long. I'm gonna keep this train a' rollin.

Paul Casey

I've heard two Danko Jones songs. One is pretty good and the other is pretty terrible.

Ian Jane

He has a few real stinkers (King of Magazines is a good example) but the vast majority of his stuff is pretty rockin.

Roderick
01-31-2011, 01:42 PM
Danko ain't too bad.

I've been listening to a lot of post DK's Jello lately.

Ian Jane
01-31-2011, 01:54 PM
I like his Melvins collaborations, but his Guantanamo School of Medicine thing didn't impress me as much.

Roderick
01-31-2011, 02:13 PM
Yeah, the Melvins stuff is better, but I still think it's pretty solid. His DOA and No Means No collabs are good and Lard can be hit or miss, but I dig it when it works.

Ian Jane
01-31-2011, 02:39 PM
Jello works well with Canadians.

Todd Jordan
02-01-2011, 09:48 AM
There there, shut up Paul.

On the way in to work I was digging the sounds of Col. Claypool's Bucket of Bernie Brains. Good stuff. Buckethead needs to find another band to make better.

Nolando

Heard a sensible theory that Primus and Rush are the same band...

Paul Casey

But what if I have a revolution against oppressive technology that requires a theme song?

Paul Casey
02-01-2011, 06:12 PM
Yeah, and Todd, what if the trees start to revolt and you're stuck in the middle of it? What if the Snow Dog comes around this fierce winter and you don't know who to call?
DER.

Todd Jordan
02-01-2011, 06:30 PM
all references I refuse to understand. This is a thread about your ass being rocked off. R*sh does NOT belong here in any fashion. Go start a thread called "What shit is non-rocking you at ever?" Then you can talk about R*sh. My wife likes them. I don't get it.

Paul Casey
02-01-2011, 06:33 PM
Well, you just revealed that your wife is cooler than you. Plus, she likes Rock Star, so...

What's her number?

Todd Jordan
02-01-2011, 06:37 PM
same as mine. She's stuck in the 80s. Not her 80s, but THE 80s.

Paul Casey
02-01-2011, 07:19 PM
80/10 = 8 ... Would you mind if I 8 her out?

Todd Jordan

I would pay money to see that - but only if Neal Peart wrote the soundtrack.

Ian Jane

I met Alex Lifeson once. His family had a cottage on the other side of the bay from the cottage that my grandparents had. I was 4 I think. I had no idea who he was or why I should care.

31 years later and I know who he is, but I still don't care.

That's 'cause you're a moron.

Ian Jane
02-01-2011, 09:42 PM
Maybe, but his family sold the cottage, and we kept ours. Since then the property values for lakefront land in Muskoka have gone nuts and we're sitting on a pretty amazing investment. Sure, he's got gold records and could probably buy us out ten times over without batting an eye, but we're close to the rock in the bay where the ducks hang out. You can't put a price on that - so maybe HE'S the moron - ever think of that, pizza balls?

Paul Casey
02-01-2011, 10:53 PM

Michelle Tanner did write a song about a pig and a duck, so you're probably right. Alex is gonna get duck scratch fever pretty bad scratch fever.

I wrote a book about a pig and a duck in 2nd grade. I should scan it.
