    The Movies:

In what appears to be an ongoing quest to unearth every obscure Rene Bond XXX'r ever made, After Hours Cinema once again digs deep into the vaults to unleash three no budget quickies starring everyone's favorite chipmunk cheeked California girl.

    SOUNDS OF SEX

Originally released as Teenage Fantasies, this 1971 film features Ms. Bond basically playing herself and introducing a series of hardcore vignettes, each one based on someone's fantasy (and for the record that someone is never actually a teenager, making the original title an odd choice). The film begins with Rene in mid-blowjob, explaining her love of performing oral sex which leads up to a big ol' facial finish before segueing into our first 'fantasy' in which a nerdy man is seduced by a more aggressive female who takes him into the bedroom and has her with him.

From there we watch Rene go down again, and then learn how an old man loves to get with younger women. He discusses how he can't perform with the same sort of stamina as younger men can but makes up for it with his ability to put 'an entire inch of tongue up a girl's ass.' We then witness him hop into bed with a remarkably eager twenty-something lady who doesn't seem to mind his liver spots, flab or black socks. From there it's back to Rene's oral fixations (it may seem repetitious but she does it with such skill and obvious genuine enthusiasm that it doesn't get tired) before closing out with a vignette in which a girl gets turned on by a man actually loving her (she tells him to stop while they make out because she doesn't want to get hurt - he proves he won't hurt her by groping between her legs!) and the final act in which a girl watches her boyfriend make it with another chick only to join in on the action.

Suzanne Fields and the omnipresent Rick Lutz both appear in the film alongside Rene (who we only ever see from the shoulders up but who looks as adorable as ever here with a schlong in her mouth!) and the film moves at a good pace. The sex is hotter than usual, creepy old guy scene notwithstanding, and if the score and production values all scream with seventies XXX clichés, well, that's half the fun of a movie like this one.

    CITY WOMAN

Less inspired is the 1974 feature, City Woman, though it's still worth seeing if you fall into the Bond devotee camp. The film follows four different women as they go about their daily lives in the big city. The narration explains that they all basically come from different backgrounds but have a desire for sex in common. From here, a light jazz soundtrack accompanies us as we watch each of the four ladies indulge in something naughty.

First up is Sandy Carey playing a secretary who heads outside on her lunch break. She imagines that she meets a handsome man and before you know it he's giving her a good old fashioned shagging. Bond's fantasy is a little more unusual. She's an art aficionado and sees in a certain painting qualities of the artist that she appreciates on a carnal level. From here she heads to his studio and sees him in action and in turn becomes one of his subjects, using her nude body to put paint to canvas under his direction. After they've created their modern art masterpiece, they get it on. The third story features an attractive black woman shopping for a waterbed and the final sees Sandy Dempsey meeting and greeting a well groomed man with awesome facial hair in a public city park.

Fairly whimsical and very playful, there's a good sense of fun behind the sex scenes that make up the bulk of the picture's running time. Some interesting period footage of seventies California is a welcome addition and the actresses involved all seem quite pleased with themselves on camera. Well shot and well edited City Woman (also released as City Women, which makes more sense as there are four of them) is enjoyable as both a competent sex film and a smutty seventies time capsule.

    SHOW AND TELL HOTEL

The third and final feature is… skuzzy. Really skuzzy. Shot very fast and very cheap, the film follows Rene and her boyfriend as they roam the halls of a hotel and peer in at different occupants through the keyholes of the rooms. The first room features a pair of harsh looking lesbians, one bound to the bed and the other using a vibrator on her. When the one tied to the bed isn't getting a turned on as her partner wants her to, they argue and then try again using two toys at once. We see a few more couples go at it until the last scene where Bond joins a really haggard looking guy in one of the rooms for a reasonably inspired sex scene that shows off her many charms without managing to hide just how filthy looking her partner is.

    Video/Audio/Extras:

Each of the three movies is presented in its original 1.33.1 fullframe aspect ratio and transferred from film. They haven't been fully restored so expect a fair bit of print damage and plenty of visible scratches but that doesn't really detract from the experience much. Colors are faded and black levels all over the place but if the elements are in rough shape, at least the disc is fairly well authored and not plagued by compression artifacts or edge enhancement problems.

The audio is on par with the video, in that it's rough but serviceable considering the origins of the films and the materials available to work with. Each of the three English language Dolby Digital Mono tracks has some hiss and some audible cracking in spots but most fans of this material won't mind so much.

Extras are limited to trailers for a few other After Hours Cinema releases, menus and feature selection.

    The Final Word:

Some more extras would have been welcome and the presentation won't win any awards but this collection of three fairly obscure offerings from the late, great Rene Bond's filmography will be a welcome addition to any fan's collection.
