Good Riddance - Capricorn One (Singles & Rarities)
Fat Wreck Chords
$9.98
Purchase From Amazon
A collection of twenty-one tracks released on various 7†vinyl only and splits between 1993 and 1997, Good Riddance's Capricorn One (Singles & Rarities) is a pretty solid slice of rock and roll goodness that also includes the bands compilation releases and a few demos as well. If you're a fan, this is a great way to get some of those harder to find tracks without having to hunt down a bunch of obscure releases (though to many of us, there's still very much a thrill in that hunt that digital downloads, mp3s and torrents have not diminished).
Having been around more than fifteen years before splitting up, Good Riddance have rightfully earned a following at this point in their (now over) career thanks to their fairly unique mix of pop punk and more traditional hardcore. This makes for a nice mix of melodic and chaotic, with some solid instrumentation and effectively resonant vocals that fit the mood without delving into emo territory or getting too whiny. The tracks on this disc, which are compiled from a few years worth of material, serve as a pretty solid selection of what the band is all about. Far from a greatest hits package (quite the opposite, actually), we're still treated to both of the aforementioned sides of the outfit's output. You'll find yourself singing along in spots, and maybe starting to 'feel it' here and there.
The six completely unreleased tracks that have found their way onto this compilation will make this release an attractive one to the band's existing fans, but the variety and divergence of material that makes up the bulk of its running time show not only their tenacity but also their range. While it's a shame that we won't likely be getting any new material from the band, this collection off oddball tracks helps to take some of the sting out of that fact.
A nice touch, on the part of Fat, is that inside the CD case sleeve is a great insert. Pull it out and you'll find the lyrics for each of the songs on the disc as well as a paragraph by the band for each track explaining the history behind it. It might not seem like a big deal, but it's little touches like this that the fans appreciate.Posting comments is disabled.

FLOTSAM AND JETSAM have been at this since the early 1980s and are probably best remembered for giving bassist Jason Newstead to METALLICA. Their first two records - Doomsday For The Deceiver and No Place For Disgrace are considered classics of the thrash metal genre but like many other acts that started strong on an indie label and wound up on a major label during the thrash signing boom ...-

Purchase From Amazon Recorded in Bulgaria - where life is cheap! Hot on the heels of his utterly bizarre We Are One collaboration (also reviewed here at RSP!), everyone's favorite Teutonic Metal ogre Herr Udo Dirkschneider returns with that ubiquitous staple - the live album. For a while now it has been common practice for legacy acts, or pretty much any band with a history over 20 years long, to release a live album...-

EXPLODING!†Germany's WIZARD have been at this since 1991 and at this point have pretty much nailed this “true metal†thing down to a science. This, the band's 12th full length offers very little in the way of musical surprises and appears to be purposefully designed that way. WIZARD are catering to a very specific demographic - aficionados of gloriously irony-free...
