Wanda Whips Wall Street
Released by: Video-X-Pix
Released on: 8/21/2006
Director: Larry Revene
Cast: Veronica Hart, Trish Ambrose, Samantha Fox, Jamie Gillis, Ron Jeremy
Year: 1982
Purchase from TLA Video
The Movie:
Sultry sex kitten Veronica Hart (as a blonde) plays Wanda, a cunning crook working with a stockbroker to take over a Wall Street firm. With the help of her friend and secretary Janie (Trish Ambrose) she blackmails the largest shareholders into signing over their shares to them. What could they possibly use against these fine men to blackmail them? Yes, that's right. Coitus.
Once the firm starts realizing something is amiss, they hire a special investigator to get the low down. Enter Jamie Gillis as Lou Perrini and his co-investigator Ed (Ron Jeremy). The two of them use their wits and their penises to crack the case, among other things. Before too long Wanda gets careless and the dicks get closer to their goal: find out who's fucking with the company (and fucking the shareholders).
Wanda Whips Wall Street is an excellent example as to why classic erotica is revered by so many. The sex in this one is almost secondary (almost) to the story, which isn't a bad one, and when the sex is on the screen it is erotic and sexy, not some ham slammin' marathon that ends in a facial every time. In fact one scene ends without a cumshot. This film was shot with an actual budget and it shows. There are many characters, most with minor, non-sex roles, and lots of extras. It was directed by someone with cinematography experience to brag about (Roommates, Barbara Broadcast, Bon Appetit) and someone who knows where to put a camera. Larry Revene went on to direct other features (Deep Throat II, and the awesome Candy Stripers 2) but remained active mostly as an adult film cinematographer, and even worked on non-porn (like Joe D'Amato's Creepers for example). Filmed in New York City, the movie makes good use of real locations, even at one point going to the NY Stock Exchange. Movies like this are always fun to watch when they film on the streets. The people in the background just so happen to be there and they look right at the camera and actors and like they were looking at an accident. No one is around to shoo them off and it's a kick to watch them.
But the thing that puts this movie in a class above the normal bump-n-grind stuff is the acting. Veronica Hart is incredibly hot, as she usually is, and of course she sizzles when she's doing the deed. When her clothes are on, she's still glows on the screen with her sex appeal and gives a solid performance as a back-stabbing, conniving thief, stealing the company right out from under the horny guys who collectively own it. Trish Ambrose is also fine in her role and although she doesn't quite show the zest for screwing on camera that Ms. Hart does, she has an innocent way about her that makes her charming as well as very fuckable. Her scene with Ron Jeremy is one of the best in the film. And Ron Jeremy, looking very trim and young in his pre-polar bear days, is also great with his character. Jamie Gillis, known for his dark sexual prowess, seems more even keeled here and does a great job as the investigator. And watch for Sharon Mitchell in a bit part as well as a brief appearance by George Payne.
Wanda Whips Wall Street succeeds in being a little more than the average porno with its large group of players, intentional (although not really effective) humor, erotic sex, and a lot of ambition. This one is definitely worth your time and should certainly be considered a good couple's movie.
Video/Audio/Extras:
Presented here in 4:3 full screen, it doesn't look as though this was remastered, but it certainly looks decent. The edges seem soft, and there's some dirt here and there, but all in all it delivers a more than acceptable picture. Film grain is present, dark levels are so-so, colors are pretty good. It kind of falls between the best videotape and a mid-level DVD in picture quality. The audio is fine, a 2.0 Dolby Digital track with no problems to report. The balance is good, audio is clear. No issues to report. The only supplemental material is a number of trailers: Babylon Blue, Inside Seka, A Scent of Heather, and Roommates.
The Final Word:
A great piece of early 80s erotica, right near the end of the shot-on-film days. Great performances, competent filmmaking, and realistic sex (well, as realistic as smut movies can be) make this one a definite must have for those who appreciate porn for more than just the boinking.
