    Sexually Deranged

    The Movie:

Oliver Hunt's Sexually Deranged is, well, fairly deranged and fairly sexual so, yeah, it's well named. When the movie begins, we meet some poor woman being held captive in a grungy looking basement lit with strange green lights somewhere out in the middle of some otherwise unassuming suburbs. A guy with a funny hat comes into the frame and flips her over so that he can yank down her undies and slap her ass with a whip. He strips off the rest of her clothes, plays with her boobs and crams a dildo into her, which he rapes her with at knife point.

As it turns out, our hat wearing rape fiend believes himself to be doing the work of God. See, in his twisted mind God wants him to abduct pretty ladies, the sluttier the better, and make them see the error of their ways by forcing them into increasingly nasty sexual situations and making them climax. This will somehow purge them of whatever demons they may have and make the world a better place. The movie follows this pious pervert around as he does his thing to a few unfortunate hotties, all in the name of the Lord, highlighted by a bizarre scene in which a naked black chick has to ride an exercise bike until it brings her to orgasm. Oh, and there's some freaky incest in here too, where our hero fucks his sister with a spoon. Yep, a spoon. Which he then uses to make tea. It all ends with a really, really long scene of female masturbation and pseudo transformation that is as sexy as it is strange.

This is a rough one, as you could probably gather, but you've got to give it to Oliver Hunt for crafting something that is actually equal parts disturbing and bizarre, if occasionally sexy. Obviously all of this is fake but the sheer ballsiness of it, the fuck you attitude towards what society deems taboo, is admirable and when you combine that with the fact that this is actually fairly well acted and reasonably well shot, well, Sexually Deranged comes out a far more effective movie than it probably had any right to be. There's no shortage of degradation, forced submission and rough sex here, and if that's your thing, well, it's all wrapped up in the context of a horror film that could very well have been inspired by Franco's Exorcism, a film that it shares some similar traits with.

The female cast members are all attractive enough that you'll take notice, and they're all frequently naked, graphically naked even, leaving very little to the imagination. It's all shot with a fair bit of grimy, sleazy super skeezy style, good use of color and some decent framing. There's some artistic intent behind the wanton debauchery and as twisted as all of this is, and it is twisted - let there be no doubt, it's actually fairly well done.

    Video/Audio/Extras:

The 1.78.1 anamorphic widescreen transfer on this disc shows its low budget roots at times but is, overall, stable and clean showing decent color reproduction. Some compression artifacts pop up in the darker scenes and detail isn't always razor sharp but overall it looks fine.

The English language Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo track presents the movie with clear audio and well balanced dialogue. The score is fairly minimal but it comes through with the right amount of clarity and there are no issues with hiss or distortion to complain about.

Outside of a static menu and chapter selection, there are a few trailers for other releases available from Independent Entertainment - but that's it.

    The Final Word:

Sexually Deranged is sexually deranged. There's no doubt about that. The filmmakers have done a decent job though, as the film mixes depraved eroticism with some decent production values to make what was obviously a very low budget and niche market production rise ever so slightly above its peers. The end result is a strange mix of arthouse and torture dungeon styles, shot with a good eye and performed by a bold cast.
