    The Movie:

Insight doesn't really leave you with much of that, wondering instead what, exactly, happened in the :90 min. runtime of this movie and what the hell is Christopher Lloyd doing in this picture?

This is one of those films that has no clear idea of what it wants to be and then further needs to remove any working knowledge of reality in order to proceed. Seriously: The film ignores how emergency rooms and hospitals operate, how crime scenes exist, and what steps are part of police investigations all to try and tell its sloppy mix of murder mystery and supernatural thriller.

Natalie Zea (Justified) is Kaitlyn, an ER nurse on duty one night when a young woman who's been repeatedly stabbed is brought in. Kaitlyn thinks the woman is trying to tell her something so she leans in close right when someone else hits her with the defibrillator paddles. This magically locks Kaitlyn into the now-deceased young woman's memories. She begins to see more of the victim's life and her murder and tries to piece things together.

Kaitlyn soon runs into the police investigation, led by Det. Rafferty (Sean Patrick Flannery) and, together, they soon stumble through the case, using her visions as clues. Seriously. Christopher Lloyd shows up as a neighbor of the victim who may be hiding more than he's telling but I guess they only had him for one day of shooting because that's just one of many, many questions left completely unanswered by this movie. Adam Baldwin shows up as the victim's psychologist, lover, and possible murderer and, lord knows, he tries his best to make his bit work but he's one man fighting a flood of incompetent mediocrity here.

And as things progress it turns out that Kaitlyn might be insane to begin with - so was the whole story in her head or did it really happen?

    Video/Audio/Extras:

The Dolby 5.1 Digital Surround track is nice and beefy here and the 1.78:1 widescreen is filled out nicely - so the production values are quite solid. It's just too bad the material doesn't take advantage of them at all. A French 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround track is included, apparently so we can take this out on the French, too. The extras here are brief, with the film's trailer and a behind-the-scenes that tries really hard to sell this film for more than it is.

    Summary:

For reference, I'd like to point the filmmakers of this film to the definition of the term “insight,” courtesy of dictionary.com:

    in-sight [in-sahyt]
    noun
    1. an instance of apprehending the true nature of a thing, especially through intuitive understanding: an insight into 18th-century life.
    2. penetrating mental vision or discernment; faculty of seeing into inner character or underlying truth.
    3. Psychology .
    a. an understanding of relationships that sheds light on or helps solve a problem.
    b. (in psychotherapy) the recognition of sources of emotional difficulty.
    c. an understanding of the motivational forces behind one's actions, thoughts, or behavior; self-knowledge.

Please make a note of this because YOUR MOVIE HAS NONE OF THIS. Thank you.

      Tormented – Movie Review:

The late Bert I. Gordon’s 1963 horror film, ‘Tormented,’ is an effectively spooky ghost story made with an obviously low budget but no less effective for it.
