    The Movie:

A couple more movies, including one directed by Shaun Costello, intended for the Avon Theater are resurrected for this latest double feature courtesy of After Hours Cinema.

    HOUSE OF KINKY PLEASURES (1975):

Set up as a faux documentary about what happens behind the closed doors of a house of ill repute, a dark haired madam kinda-sorta guides us through four precariously linked scenes. First up is a BDSM session in which a woman with crazy Rocky Horror Picture Show style makeup on binds and beats a man with a big moustache and goofy underwear. Once that's over and done with, they get it on. There's some knife play here and some rope play as well.

In the next room are two men and two women enjoying a giant bucket of KFC - you know where this is going, right? They proceed to get it on and use the Colonel's finest in ways you'd expect, given what sort of movie this is, but not necessarily in ways you want to see. They rub chicken all over each other, eating as they screw, and hot dogs come into play - obviously - in a fairly wacky double penetration scene (who knew you could bend a hot dog like that without breaking it?).

The third room contains a foxy looking white girl, a white guy and a black guy. Time for the requisite three way, this time with some interracial mixed in for kink appeal. There's some foot fetish play here but it plays out more or less like any typical three way, ending with the expected double penetration sequence. It's well shot and this lithe lady performs well, gotta give her credit for that.

Last but not least, the last room contains two lovely ladies dressed up in Victorian era garb enjoying tea time together. They flirt a bit and then take charge when the butler shows up. He gets some oral and then bones one and then the other. For some reason the butler has black face paint on. He finishes and by the end of the scene half of his face paint has rubbed off all over the girls. FIN!

    DAUGHTER OF DISCIPLINE (1978):

Here's another rough and tumble hour long session of physical and verbal abuse! In this sickie, the lovely C.J. Laing, playing a woman named Ellie Deveraux, becomes initiated into a bizarre and sadistic sex cult. When a card arrives in her mailbox with a skull and crossbones on it, she knows that the cult has chosen her to be their human sacrifice. When she finds this out, she plays with herself a little bit and thinks back on how she got involved in this mess in the first place. Once the cult comes for her, they decide to come in her and on her as well and she's tied up and eventually an electric dildo is used on her.

This one is rough, with its abundance of chains and restraining devices and a whole lot of whipping and slapping by strange man, naked except for the black masks covering their faces and concealing their identities. The final scene, the inevitable orgy that the entire film is building towards, is decadent and primal in its feel and its tone. The cult members fuck like animals and C. J.'s character knows what's coming up next for her, and she also knows that there's nothing that she can do about it. This one is pretty dark and is about as depressing as any porno I've seen. Look for Sharon Mitchell in this one and director Shaun Costello as well, she's got a small uncredited role in one of the sex scenes.

It's effective in its grimy atmosphere, the low budget and cheap film stock used adding to this in a big way. The movie is actually pretty creative in how it was shot, some very bizarre camera angles making their way into the production most notably during the finale when Laing is forced to sit on the electric chair with a dildo strapped to it. We see this happen from beneath, very atypical. This one isn't strong on plot but Laing is excellent in the lead, a true glutton for punishment and a completely sympathetic character.

    Video/Audio/Extras:

After Hours has done an alright job bringing these two movies to DVD in 1.33.1 fullframe, even if the transfers are interlaced. The films do show their age through a myriad of print damage, wear and tear. Don't go into this release expecting miracles, rather, keep your expectations in check. This is some pretty obscure material and to see it taken from film prints at all is, in itself, a minor miracle. Look past the print damage and the color fading or take it all in as part of the experience. Yeah, this stuff looks rough, but that's half the charm right there.

It's Dolby Digital Mono across the board, just as it should be. A bit of background hiss might creep in here and there but for the most part there aren't any problems here. Expect a pop or two from time to time but dialogue is clean and clear and there aren't any problems with heavy distortion. The scores are mixed in nicely and the levels are properly balanced throughout. For older, low budget adult films, both movies sound fine on this disc. Note that the scores have been changed here - both films used music that was copyrighted without permission, you can't really blame AHC for not wanting to get sued. The replacement music fits pretty well though, it suits the tone and time quite nicely.

Extras are limited to a static menu and trailers for a few other After Hours Cinema releases.

    The Final Word:

Two sleazy Avon titles find new life in film sourced transfers from After Hours Cinema. Yeah, these are rough around the edges but they're almost better that way. Fans of seventies sleaze take note.
