  • The Queers & The Dwarves, Live At Le Poisson Rouge, New York City, NY, August 31st, 2013.

Ok, so after leaving the Poison Idea show in Brooklyn, it was time to head into Manhattan to check out The Queers and The Dwarves at Le Poisson Rouge on Bleeker Street. We arrived about five minutes before The Queers took the stage and delivered a solid half hour set that was basically a greatest hits show. No complaints though, they're such a fun band that it doesn't really matter how many times you hear a lot of their songs. There was an obligatory Ramones cover thrown in for good measure and a whole lot of energy on stage and in the crowd. Joe Queer was chatty, talking about his Japanese wife (noting that the best thing about Japanese women is that once you put them in the shower they look fifteen!) and ending every song intro with MOTHERFUCKER!, as is his way.

Having been a fan of The Queers since high school and never having seen them live in the twenty years that have since passed, it was a complete blast to finally get to check them out. Fast. Snotty. Rude. Pretty much just what you'd want from one of their sets, middle fingers in the air and a decent rowdy crowd moshing away up front and singing along to every song.

The Dwarves came out next, sharing The Queers' drum kit and making for very little downtime between the two sets. There was no masked and mysterious guitar player this time around but that didn't stop Blag from killing it on stage. They played for about forty-five minutes or so, and though the first few songs in the set were plagued with microphone problems (which caused the band to walk off stage, noting that they'd be back when it was fixed - it was fixed, and they came back right away), the band was in fine form. Blag was talkative, not unusual really, and spent a good amount of time crowd surfing towards the end of the set. Just like The Queers before them, they more or less played the hits, and of course took time out between songs to boast about the fact that they are the best looking band on the planet. Rowdy and crass as crass can be, they closed what was a fairly early show and ended a pretty fun night. The last stop of the tour is tonight (September 1st, 2013) in Philly. If you're there, go see it. Too much fun, these guys should tour together again some time.
