    The Movies:

Billed as a 'genuine Times Square cinema program circa 1970' this latest release from Vinegar Syndrome recreates, through the magic of DVD, what you might actually see spool onto a screen in front of you were you to wander into one of the adult cinemas that dotted the landscape of the New York City that once was. Of course, you have to supply your own vagrants and rough trade, and there's no popcorn supplied, but as far as the content goes? They've got you covered.

The bill starts off with a trailer for the feature attraction, The Oral Generation. It promises us some pretty explicit sights and with that out of the way, we move on to the first short of the evening, Clinical Sex, in which a lovely young lass named Alice has a date with the doctor. See, she's having trouble in the boudoir with her significant other and is worried about the effect it might have on their nuptials. As such, she's come to him for help and he's only too happy to oblige, taking her temperature with his dong and giving her a lesson in pleasure all while a nurse named Ella takes care of some other chick out there in the waiting room. But just wait until Mr. Alice finds out what's been going on!

From there, we get another short called Anyway You Like It in which another lovely young lady pays a visit to a doctor. This patient has got a hang up in regards to certain marital aids, thanks to unwittingly witnessing her some dude in the act, using a fairly monstrous one on some other gal. She's so appalled by this that she makes a couple of repeat visits and sees the same dude do the same thing to a few other chicks on a few other occasions. The doctor's got the right idea for a cure though, and that's to break through her mental block with some vibrator love. Once she's had a taste though, she needs more and he's only too happy to give it to her. Hopefully her insurance covers this. Doctor's offices seem like they were a lot more fun in the 1970s. Hopefully the Affordable Care Act will usher in a return to form for America.

Our third short is Naked Sexes and it's… weird. Basically four pretty girls not wearing any tops stand in a room with three oiled up buff guys. The girls pose and the guys flex and they all giggle and laugh and stare at each other. That's more or less it. It's fascinating in its own bizarre way, even if it does go on a little longer than it needs to.

Short number four is The Different Sex and it follows a student named Sandra who takes her research on human sexuality to a different level when she decides to use herself as a guinea pig. She enjoys some quality time with two of the young men in her class and then goes on to broaden her horizons by exploring what her foxy female roommate has to offer. Now seasoned in the ways of love, Sandra is sure to ace her paper.

Last but not least, we get the feature attraction. While the shorts all ran roughly ten minutes or so, this puppy clocks in at just over fifty and it starts off with some great location photography shot in the heart of an early seventies era Times Square where the searing lights of theater marquees blaze the night and call like a siren to a sailor. From here we learn, in a very matter of fact manner, about sex 'do's and don'ts' books and what they can offer when examining the merits of oral copulation. Soon enough, however, the clinical style is tossed aside from a vignette in which a horny housewife tells us in first person narration how she takes care of the man in her life when he comes home all hot and bothered after a long day's work. From there we're treated to an expose on interracial oral love, some rad martial arts fantasy role playing and then a fun little three way with two girls and one lucky dude.

This stuff isn't high art, we're not talking Henry Paris caliber adult filmmaking here. In fact, this stuff was obviously made fast and cheap, it shows in each of the productions showcased on the disc. With that said, if you're into the oddball, low rent adult films of the early seventies, before the porno chic boom resulted in high quality adult films these quickies should be right up your alley. The movies offer up some interesting variety in terms of eye candy and there's plenty of unintentional hilarity on hand to accompany the legitimate, if fringe, historical value that the content provides. The Times Square footage in the feature attraction will definitely appeal to those who appreciate such things and there's some pretty cool music used throughout. These aren't deep, they're not thought provoking and honestly they're not even very well made but if you're in the right frame of mind for it they are definitely fun.

    Video/Audio/Extras:

These filthy films look nice and clean, but not too clean, just film-like. Scanned in 2k from 35mm archival elements, the fullframe transfers present the movies in their original aspect ratios and they show good detail and great color reproduction. Skin, obviously here in copious amounts, looks nice and natural, never waxy, while black levels stay good. These probably look about as good as the original elements and standard definition transfers will allow. The screen caps below don't lie.

Likewise the English language Dolby Digital Mono tracks get the job done without any issues. None of the material is all that dialogue heavy but when the actors speak you'll have no trouble hearing them. Levels are balanced well, the music sounds appropriately goofy and there aren't any noticeable hiss or distortion related problems.

Outside of the material that plays as the feature itself, we also get roughly ten minutes worth of outtakes from The Oral Generation as well as some static menus and chapter selection.

    The Final Word:

This release might not work your mind over like it does your groin, but it's a pretty entertaining collection of some beautifully preserved vintage sleaze. Cheap thrills are the name of the game and Vinegar Syndrome's release of The Oral Generation offers them up in spades.

      Tormented – Movie Review:

The late Bert I. Gordon’s 1963 horror film, ‘Tormented,’ is an effectively spooky ghost story made with an obviously low budget but no less effective for it.
