The Movie:
When Fred J. Lincoln's 1981 film Oui Girls begins, a pretty young brunette named Barbara (Anna Ventura) is driving along the California coast with her pal Nick (Paul Thomas). They stop to enjoy the view and he tells her that he needs her to go undercover with him to infiltrate a swinger's ranch called the Circle S. She agrees and then we switch scenes to find a beautiful woman named Cora (Lisa De Leeuw) at the side of the road trying to fix her tire. A man (Joey Silvera) pulls over to help her, or so it seems, but all he wants to do is stroke off. She slaps him, which does the trick for the lone pervert, and gets in her car to head home. Where's home? The ranch. She talks to her husband, Buck (Michael Morrison) about what happened and this gets him in the mood, which apparently gets her in the mood. The do the dirty deed.
From there we meet a young married couple named Laura (Tiffany Clark) and Frank (Michael Bruce). Wanting to spice things up a bit, Laura made contact with a woman named Francine (Sharon Kane) who is on her way over. They let her in and she explains to them the joys of swinging - you'll never learn to swim if you don't jump into the pool. Before you know it, she's recruited them to hang out at the ranch as well. As Barbara and Nick make their way into the fold, lots of people have lots of sex and Nick takes Barbara's virginity. Things get complicated when she finds him banging Cora shortly thereafter. Will Nick bust the guy at the ranch he's there to bust or will the only thing he busts be a nut across the various ladies who populate the place? Will Barbara find true love? Will Laura and Frank ever truly learn to swim? DRAMA!
This one starts off as a mystery of sorts - Nick is a cop or an investigator of some sort and he's off to catch a bad guy. This much we know. Where it goes from there…. well, that aspect of the plot more or less gets tossed out the window pretty quickly. They come back to it briefly towards the end and it does sort of tie into what happens between Nick and Barbara as the movie concludes but really, there's no mystery here. There is a bit of drama, just enough to tie things together into something sort of resembling a cohesive plot. For the most part though, this is one to watch for the sex scenes and at least on that level, the movie delivers.
The picture shows okay production values. The fashions and furniture are horribly dated (look for a weird Paul Puree poster in the background of once scene that looks like half of Paul Stanley's face converted into some sort of art piece - who ever thought that was a good idea?) but that there is half the charm. The score is decent, if derivative, and the movie is paced well. Lincoln gets enthusiastic performances from a strong cast here. Paul Thomas is his typically likeable self, looking here like some sort of uber horny Donald Sutherland, and Anna Ventura and Lisa De Leeuw both look fantastic and deliver some fairly scorching work. There's really no reason for the movie be called Oui Girls as it has nothing to do with anything related to French culture, but the movie does have its own awesomely terrible theme song that warbles over the opening credits. Not an essential lost classic of early eighties adult cinema, but a fun watch.
Video/Audio/Extras:
Impulse Pictures presents Oui Girls in 1.78.1 anamorphic widescreen in a transfer that looks to be sourced from unrestored film elements. The opening credits where Thomas and Ventura drive along the California coast line look pretty rough, lots of print damage here, but thankfully things settle down after that. There are still some specks and scratches but colors stay nice and distinct and detail isn't half bad. No compression artifacts or digital tinkering to note. This won't blow you away but it looks decent.
The English language Dolby Digital Mono track is fine. The dialogue is pretty easy to follow and the score is fairly clear (is that the music from Rocky in one scene?). A bit of hiss here and there but the levels are properly balanced. This gets the job done.
Outside of a static menu offering chapter selection, there are no extras on the disc at all. Nice job on the cover image though.
The Final Word:
Oui Girls has enough style and sizzle to make up for the plot that seems to get forgotten about twenty minutes in. Lincoln directs a game cast and gets some decent results in the sex scenes and paces the movie fairly well. It looks good, it's fairly well edited and it delivers some quality bumping and humping. Impulse's DVD is barebones but hey, it looks fairly good.
