HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (December 22, 2010) - Celebrating its 30th anniversary, the action-packed war drama, SHOGUN, returns as a one-of-a-kind collector's edition DVD now available from CBS Home Entertainment and Paramount Home Entertainment.
From best-selling author James Clavell, SHOGUN: 30th ANNIVERSARY EDITION stars Richard Chamberlain and Yí´ko Shimada in their Golden Globe® award-winning roles as John Blackthorne and Lady Toda Buntaro - Mariko. Blackthorne is an English navigator who finds himself shipwrecked off the coast of Japan. After being rescued, he becomes an eyewitness to a deadly struggle involving Toranaga (Toshirí´ Mifune; Rashomon), a feuding Japanese warlord intent on becoming the supreme military dictator or 'Shogun.' The warlord forms a tenuous alliance with Blackthorne, who is drawn into the turmoil and finds himself vying to become the first ever 'Gai-Jin' (foreigner) to be made a Samurai warrior.
Narrated by legendary filmmaker Orson Welles, SHOGUN: 30th ANNIVERSARY EDITION features over nine hours of content from this landmark television miniseries and is available for the suggested retail price of $54.99 US and $56.99 CAN. The 5-disc DVD set also includes a bonus material disc with behind-the-scenes footage, audio commentaries by director Jerry London, historical perspective featurettes and more.
