  • B.P.R.D. Hell On Earth #113

    Released by: Dark Horse Comics
    Released on: November 20, 2013

This issue focuses primarily on the return of Liz Sherman, the pyrotechnically gifted woman who has a real problem with authority and confinement. In parallel here, though, is the story of a young woman named Fenix who has a ghost companion that sometimes appears and gives her glimpses of the future.

Liz helps a desperate squad of police in dispatching a particularly nasty baddie, leading them on after its demise to their next stop, a notorious nearby hospital. It's clear she's ready to return to action and put a stop to those that harm the rest of humanity. Meanwhile, Fenix's ghost friend leads her to some truths about the hippie cultists she's staying with and what's really inside the massive egg they're worshipping as some new, beautiful god. By the end of the issue, both women have put their doubts and fears behind them and become the assertive, action-oriented people that are just what are needed.

Quickly-paced in an intriguing story, writers Mike Mignola and John Arcudi continue to embellish this world they've created and find new ways to entertain and inject characters with even more stories. Artist Tyler Crook style stays minimal during character interactions, so the dialog is put more to the fore, but then he blazes into amazing detail during big-scale action pieces that are pretty stunning.

Another quality entry in the B.P.R.D. line that restores an original character nicely.
