The action in this installment picks right up where it left off with #5 as Jacob and Miranda find themselves in trouble with the Batarians.
Their leader, Torthak, has Miranda who's been injured trying to escape. Fortunately, Jacob has befriended the street urchin named Lakshmi. She has an uncle who's been doing dirty work for this gang who are basically slavers and have taken his family as “payment†into the gang. Jacob promises Lakshmi that he'll find out what's happened to the family if she's able to get him some supplies and to Miranda's location.
Lakshmi is able to do this just in time as her uncle, Taleed, is done softening up Miranda and the Batarians are ready to kill her. Jacob comes in guns blazing and capably disables Taleed, forcing him to reveal the location of the slaves. Jacob and Miranda are able to free them, kill the Bactarian leader, and continue their quest to find Commander Shepherd's body.
The story by Mac Walters moves along at a good clip, with all the feeling of a mission from one of the Mass Effect games. The artwork from Matthew Clark is lush and detailed, making the story come very much alive. A quick but entertaining read it's another great entry in this series.
