Re-releasing previously released series, this issue has Dredd leading a small fighting force against the East-Meg One's “Mad Dog†Kazan's Sovs who are trying to take over Dredd's Mega-City One.
This is the fifth installment in The Apocalypse War storyline, assembling issues #13 - 16. It's packed with all the great hallmarks of the Judge Dredd series, with quick, brutal, constant violence and the unstoppable force that is Dredd fighting the good fight.
Originally published in 1982 and written by John Wagner and Alan Grant the story and artwork hold up incredibly well. The Cold War influence holds a strong sway over the fear and politics behind the story so, at this point, seem more anecdotal at best. However, being Dredd, it's at least consistent with his black-&-white approach to the world. And that just never gets old.
The re-release here gets a very faithful color transfer that nicely shows off the gritty details of Carlos Ezquerra's artwork. Well worth picking up both for old-time fans and for anyone new to the force of nature that is Judge Dredd.
