An all-new series featuring Darth Vader, the narrative technique here comes from a disgruntled clone trooper. The events take place soon after Vader's turn to the Dark Side and resurrection with his famous look, as he's just making his mark on the battlefield.
The clone starts with a bit of his own experiences with the Jedi, thinking them not worthy of the praise heaped on them any more than any of his fellow troopers. The stories about Vader, though, are remarkable and exceptional, inspiring for someone with no love for the Jedi. Here, Vader is shown as the center of dramatic tales as an enigma, a devastating force, always in shadow but resolute in purpose.
The clone finally reveals the story specific to his current outcast situation, wherein he was wounded in battle and left for dead by the Jedi. He managed to recuperate himself, alone, in a desert, his bitterness and resentment growing all the while. He finds his way to a farm, to recover further, but soon sets out, drawn to Vader and his mission, the leader who he can truly believe in.
Tim Siedell's take on Vader here is refreshing as it shows the loyalty his troops display that was previously just assumed. It's the idea he represents as he comes into his own as Lord Vader, filling in his story in a unique manner but related well here. Gabriel Guzman's artwork is pretty dazzling here as well, relaying all the grit of clone trooper-combat and the mystery surrounding Vader himself. A great start to what looks to be a promising series.
