Dead Body Road #2 (of 6)
Published by: Image Comics/Skybound
Released on: Jan. 21, 2014
Writer: Justin Jordan
Artist: Matteo Scalera
Cover: Matteo Scalera
Purchase at Amazon
Gage continues his road to vengeance (well, at this point his road to the road of vengeance), looking to make those responsible for his wife's murder as a result of a botched heist. His lead from his cop buddy put him on the trail to find the girlfriend of Jimmy, who met his untimely demise at the hands of a bad man named Lake. It was Lake's heist that got Anna killed, and Gage is out to make him pay. Him and whoever else is in the way.
Dead Jimmy's girlfriend Rachel isn't the subject of pursuit for just Gage. Someone new named Mellon is sniffing her out as well and he wants…something. Something she has, but we don't know what that is as yet. But Rachel isn't the pussy her dead boyfriend was, and she'll not go without a fight. Gage shows up to save her butt, new guy Mellon won't be making another appearance, and Gage takes Rachel along with him for safe keeping. They think they are in the clear for now, but we all know where that's going.
Not really giving a whole heck of a lot more information is revealed in issue two of the series, other than the introduction of Rachel. Jordan and Scalera do action well and this issue has its share, although not quite the punch the first issue had. That's ok, there has to be some exposition along the way and issue #2 seems to be the time. As per issue one, the artwork is energetic and cinematic in its layouts, almost like a story board. The colors are interesting and do well with creating an effective atmosphere, such as the sky turning from light to dark during a car ride, with an interesting use of purples at the end of the issue.
Dead Body Road #2 is a quick read that doesn't tax the brain much, but as with the first issue, it's a fun way to blow through 32 pages. So far the series seems to be nothing more than a revenge story that hasn't kicked in, but the potential is definitely there for it to be a bit more. Let's hope.Posting comments is disabled.
