  • Star Wars - Dawn of the Jedi: Force War #4

    Released by: Dark Horse Comics
    Release on: February 19, 2014

As the forces of the Je'daii gather on Tython the Rakatans press their advantage, fueling their attack ships with the Dark Side harnessed from slaves in torture chambers aboard each vessel. On the planet's surface, the Je'daii worry about the coming attack but the seers - though blinded - still hope to find some key in an ancient holycron.

With the battle of the skies soon in hand Skal'nas gives the command to commence the ground assault. The traitor Trill is ready but he replaces her as his “Force Hound” with Xesh, which infuriates Trill and, instead, she turns the Dark power of her slave chambers against everyone. One of the captured slaves is the Je'daii Sek'nos who still retains his connection to the Light side. This allows him to finally break free (after Trill has departed for the surface) and get some other slaves to turn the tables and get into the battle as well.

Meanwhile, Skal'nas, Xesh and their prisoner Daegen set about finding that chasm. They force Daegen to lead them on the secret passages to it, then leave him chained to a rock to suffer his fate, while they jetpack it on to the portal itself. Daegen has seen a vision of himself in the future as a seemingly unstoppable force, but that's getting called into question as he's attacked. He's saved at the last minute by Sek'nos who's arrived, sensing Xesh's presence - which also draws in Shae Koda as well. Atop her Force beast she and Daegen head to the portal since he knows how to bypass its impenetrability, all ready to finally face down Xesh and make him pay for this betrayal.

The blinded seer Tasha is able to harness the information in the holycron which turns out to be the spirit of the last remaining guardian of the portal the Rakatans are seeking. With the cryptic line, “It is time for Tython to awaken” the holycron activates and the seer knows what's about to happen as everyone else descends into chaos...

Again, then, Ostrander and Duursema are at their best here, deftly managing their characters and the rapidly-intersecting storylines amidst massive battle scenes. This series just gets better and better with each issue that comes out.
