  • B.P.R.D. Hell On Earth #116

    Released by: Dark Horse Comics
    Release on: February 19, 2014

Featuring a far more cohesive plot line in this issue, we're finally introduced to Zinco, the company that has a big presence in this post-apocalyptic Manhattan. But their methods are indeed brutal as a “worker” (read: “slave”) is gunned down for pocketing a pea pod from the community garden.

Meanwhile, the Russian “monster” Leonid is busy wreaking havoc on the real monsters attacking the Russian-led team. They've survived the tunnel, pushing on into the heart of the city. But now they come under the attention of other forces, namely a Zinco goon named Lutz who previously served Rasputin…

The other team, led by Johan and Liz, having been ambushed as they awoke, discover their captors have no bullets in their guns and are soon getting information from them instead. These would-be captors are apparently a resistance movement and begin detailing the nature of The Black Flame, the mysterious, huge entity that runs this new version of New York City. They also find out more info about Zinco and their brutal, murderous ways - as well as the innocent citizens they've enslaved.

Communications between the two teams are spotty at best, leaving them to fend for themselves. So when Zinco forces attack the Russian-led contingent it's up to Leonid again to basically go nuts and chop down every enemy in sight. Soon enough, though, he's managed to leave alive one Zinco agent by the name of Lutz who promises them information…

The resistance leads the other team right to The Black Flame's door, explaining that the buildings he rules from atop of are filled with those innocent citizens, complicating their mission quite a bit. But Liz is non-plussed and ready to end this mission and this menace, once and for all…

Here again Mignola and Arcudi get to put the majority of the B.P.R.D. teams into action together and are clearly having a ball with it. The story moves along pretty effortlessly and easily as a result. James Harren's artwork is pretty detailed and readily supports these big action sequences, too.
