Krampus #3
Released by: Image Comics Ltd.
Released on: February 19, 2014
Krampus is investigating the theft of St. Nick's bones and has been sent to Ibiza to find the hard-partying Jack Frost. He's accompanied by his flying wolf Stutgaard and together they soon have Jack cornered but he's totally unaware of any missing bones…
Meanwhile, in Italy, Doc Holliday is investigating one possible scene of the crime as well. He has an origin-story flashback, having been given immortality by the Spirit of the Season thanks mostly just to his name. He's in the employ of the Sugar Plum Fairies, working in parallel to Krampus' efforts.
Krampus despairs that he's at a dead end but Jack is able to help translate the only physical clue remaining, a blood-soaked piece of paper that turns out to be a legal document that sends him to Miami - but not before he lets Jack go who only asks that he gives his best to his dad, Old Man Winter. But things are going well for that character as he's trapped and powerless as the Society of Santas start to make their power play, going with sieging the “good†Santas and using old procedures in their world to stage their coup.
Krampus finds the lawyer in Miami who was tasked by the “bad†Santas, apparently, to purchase some very remote property in the Sonora desert. However, he's soon in a fight for his life with Holliday who's supposed to bring him in, preferably alive. As the two fight, more of Holliday's special powers get revealed and Krampus ends up finding the secret property - or, more to the point, the secret buried on that property, which is the identity of the traitor amongst the Santas.
Following in the likes of the Fables series Brian Joines' story is playful and reverential, creative and expansive in its use of well-known characters and in fleshing out this world. Dean Kotz' artwork is also really exceptional here, giving each of the characters their own well-planned design. A very entertaining series, even out of season!Tags: comics, comic books, comic reviews, dean kotz, image comics, brian joines, krampus, krampus #3
