Protectors Inc. #4
Released by: Image Comics Ltd.
Released on: February 19, 2014
Det. John Riley has his hands full since three mysterious but related murders have occurred in his precinct in Chicago. The last one most mysterious at all as it was The Huntsman, a previously-thought-to-be-indestructible superhero and part of The Protectors, Inc., a group of super-wealthy super-heroes.
Riley begins his investigation with Angel, the lone female member of that group, and Riley intimates that this killer might be one of their number. She's not entirely dismissive but doesn't offer much help, either. Riley's then soon off to a baseball game, to witness the Protectors' participating in a charity “fight†during the game. It features a newcomer, the Shrike, the only non-wealthy team member, against the Predator, a corporate raider and all-around a-hole.
During this match, Riley gets some info from the coroner that leads him to think this might have more to do with the Protectors than he'd first suspected. And during the ensuing “fight†he sees a side of the Predator that pushes him even further in that direction of suspicion…
While not a great deal occurs in this story it's still well told by J. Michael Stracyznski. And Gordon Purcell's artwork is the curvy, exaggerated style most fitting to a story involving a lot of superheroes.
Also included is a short preview of Dream Police, involving the town of Dreamscape and cop partners Joe Thursday and Frank Stafford. They respond to a call about a dragon being out of control. The basis here, then, is soon clear as this dream reality has a way of seriously messing with people but the horrific or fantastic are just an average day for these cops...Posting comments is disabled.
