Cadence Lark has some issues: Surviving the accident that killed her two other triplet sisters and her mother, she becomes Cady Lark, child-star. Her dad motivates her, wanting them to build some lasting tribute for their departed family. Later, though, as the fame begins to wear on them, he gets her hooked on painkillers and just generally mismanages her life to the point that she's 15 and arrested for a DUI. She goes to rehab, gets out with a new image, but nothing can seemingly change the past…
So now that she suddenly has superpowers she's channeling the rage of her own failed life into fighting crime as Furious, the first and lone superhero on the scene. The cops aren't too keen on her, though, and, soon enough, an overzealous SWAT commander orders a sniper to take her out.
But she's only just realizing what powers she has and, conveniently enough, invulnerability appears to be one of them. She confronts the SWAT commander after defusing a hostage situation so there are plenty of witnesses to what actually happened and what she's capable of. So when she punches the guy out a window the other cops know they're outmatched and only see a threat now.
Her past and her anger fuel her crime-stopping spree but they've also altogether managed to inspire another person with apparent similar abilities, the deranged villain to her heroine character. What's going to happen when they finally collide? And when will enough be enough for Furious?
Fast-paced but insightful and layered this is a great new series from writer Bryan J.L. Glass and artist Victor Santos. Well worth picking up.
