  • Ghost #2

    Released by: Dark Horse Comics
    Released on: March 12, 2014

Ghost spends a great deal of time as Elisa, her human-form counterpart, here as she attempts to find out who James Barrow was and what that means to her identity. She's reluctantly enlisted the assistance of the demon named Beleth that was inhabiting Barrow's body now and she's growing angrier at his lack of useful information.

Meanwhile, the “White Butcher” continues to kill across the city and we're given a little bit of insight into how he can move undetected into various places at the start of the issue. Ghost's “teammates” Tommy & Sloane go on to see what they can uncover on that angle, realizing how this killer may be moving about so uniquely, but potentially at their own peril.

Beleth finally gives Ghost some useful info by taking her to a secret underground club where demons all seem to congregate. She mingles a bit as she believes herself to be incognito but then main demonic villain Doctor October shows up and reveals Ghost's true identity. Cue massive amounts of carnage.

But others on the team have realized that Beleth might be just conning Ghost and leading her into a trap. They head off to locate her and warn her while she and Beleth end up at what was apparently Elisa's childhood home and a surprise guest appears that throws everything up into the air…

Smart, fast, playful and violent, Kelly Sue DeConnick and Chris Sebela's story doesn't let up, stacking many elements on top of each other but keeping all the storylines sharp and clear. Ryan Sook and Drew Johnson split pencilling duty here halfway through the episode but each are consistent with the other. Johnson gets the big, fun violent scene to show off his impressive talents while Sook gets to embellish shadows and interpersonal scenes. The trade-off between the two artists isn't really noticeable at all.
