Skyman - the more rational version found in Eric Reid, anyway - is now on the run, having realized his controllers were all involved in black ops, leaving Eric to play the PR set-piece to the public.

He decides just to flee, not really having any other plan. Thankfully for him, though, Captain Midnight appears and is quickly convinced of Reid's intentions. The two good guys hop into Midnight's fancy airplane and head to a secret base to debrief further. VERY much like Captain America coming back into the present, Midnight - having been missing-in-action for 50 years - is disillusioned by what's become of his name and, more importantly, his technology being used for nefarious purposes. The two heroes determine they have a common goal here now.

Meanwhile, Gen. Abernathy isn't too keen on Reid's escape and so he sends the sociopathic Sharp after him, whose very keen to even their score. After a poorly-thought-out phone call to his wife, Reid's location is known to the government forces seeking them out and send a team ostensibly to capture them. But Sharp is determined to bring Skyman and Midnight back in pieces.

Midnight talks Reid through this all a bit, knowing that not everyone in power is an awful person and gets Reid to concede that there has to be justice to their plan, not just revenge or anger. But, just as that's agreed upon, Sharp's fighters swoop in and begin their barrage, destroying the secret base and forcing our heroes to go skyward. Skyman is able to damage Sharp's plane but he ejects, wearing a proto-type version of the suit. The problem, according to Midnight's readings, is that Sharp's suit is also highly unstable. As are the suits of the squad of other suit-wearing soldiers that suddenly appear, intent on taking the heroes down. Sharp finally gets permission from Abernathy to use lethal force and so the concluding episode is setup to be a big final fight.

Joshua Hale Fialkov's script is even tighter, more terse and punchy by this issue and that really serves to drive the action toward its tipping point for its finale. Manuel Garcia's artwork continues to be most excellent here as well.
