Collecting the four-issue story arc this welcomes the Danger Girl team back into curvaceous, fast-paced & insane action.
The story starts by introducing us to the team as they track a mysterious briefcase in Shanghai. First up is the lead hero, Abbey Chase, the blonde. Next up is Valerie Evans, the short-haired ginger and tech lead for the group. Sydney Savage, the long-haired redhead, and her sister Sonya, the sharpshooter are introduced next. Saved for last is the older, bearded, cigar-smoking hard-nose Deuce, the one they all take their orders from but who spends more time defending his team and their non-standard methods than anything else.
The mysterious briefcase is in the hands of a sword-wearing, dragon-tattooed hottie whom the Danger Girls all learn is full of surprises, especially with whatever's in that case. This mystery woman also has a personal grudge against Abbey as well, it seems. So as the chase for the case plays out over the rest of this story, it's revealed that she is Anastasia Kilbourne, the very-lethal-sister of former DG team member Natalia Kassle. Abbey was trying to save Natalia - who had gone double-agent on them - when Natalia was killed so Anastasia's vendetta is on a personal “blood-feud†level.
The chase then takes place on foot, on motorcycle, in a van, in & on a firetruck, on helicopters, and ultimately on a train, as Asia and the DG team fight for possession of the briefcase. Having damaged the case during all this action, it's beginning to behave even more strangely, leading to Abbey - unable to defuse it - being caught into some weird time vortex where, at the end of the story, after countless casualties and Asia's death, she's bewildered and back at the very beginning of the story, briefcase in hand but with no memory of what happened. So, now, the DG chalk it all up to another job well done while Asia gets her orders to return to the base of her new masters…
This collection is excellently laid out and includes all original covers and variants, including the live-model shoots of the DG team members themselves. Andy Hartnell's script is Danger Girl purist-type stuff and that's fantastic. The artwork from Harvey Tolibao is truly the centerpiece for this collection, though, all curves and explosions and action on top of more action on top of EVEN MORE action. A great collection for fans of any level.
